"Guessing this model is not particularly common. Starts up easily and runs as it should"

Beschreibung

A well-cared-for Monark. The low reading of 130 km does not reflect reality, but the old broken odometer is included and it shows 3,580 km. In used condition with minor scuff marks. Nothing that stands out at all – the moped is in fine shape. Minor traces of use, as we sometimes put it.

Beurteilung Fahrzeugzustand

  • Zustand technisch

The engine starts easily and the gears engage as they should. Both the brakes and the clutch work well. The instruments work as far as we can tell during the short test drive. Original engine according to the owner

  • Zustand Exterieur

Fine, lightly used condition. Seat intact and clean. Light works, as do all other functions. Older tires with good tread mounted on nice original wheels

  • Zustand gesamt

A really good overall impression all in all. An unusual bike that attracts attention in its fine color.

Fakten zum Modell

The Monark E-type (with the model designation MCB 1293) is one of Sweden's most iconic and sought-after sport mopeds from the 1970s. It was manufactured by Monark-Crescentbolagen (MCB) and launched under the slogan that it was "built like a motorcycle".
Here is the history, the model years, and the technical details behind this classic dream of Swedish youth:
Background and launch
In the early 1970s, the MCB group wanted to meet the competition from foreign sport mopeds (such as Puch and Zündapp) by offering Swedish youngsters something extra sporty.
The predecessor SM50 (1972): In 1972, the Monark SM50 (model 1272) was released. It was a motocross-style moped with a high-mounted exhaust system and a gold/mandarin-colored tank. It was sold for only one year but laid the foundation for what was to come.
The launch of the E-type (1973): In 1973, the SM50 concept was further developed into the MCB E-type 1293. The moped got its name as a nod to the legendary Jaguar E-Type sports car and became an instant success thanks to its motorcycle-like design. It was sold in parallel under the brand names Monark, Crescent, and Marathon (as MCB owned these brands).
Models and changes year by year
The E-type was produced between 1973 and 1975 and underwent visible changes during these years:
1973: The first version came in the classic color Piratröd (no. 21). The model is characterized by a large, fully chromed fuel tank (7.6 liters), chromed side covers, dual instruments on the handlebars (speedometer and tachometer), a distinctive large horn with a plastic knob, stainless steel fenders, and a taillight mounted on a unique bracket.
1974: The moped received new headlight mounts, a revised horn shape, and a larger taillight, but otherwise retained much of its original appearance. The color option Orange (no. 82) was introduced.
1975: This became the final production year for the pure E-type. The biggest change was that the previously fully chromed tank was replaced by a fully painted tank with tubular mounts. The taillight bracket was also updated to a chromed sheet-metal holder.
The successor F50 (1976): In 1976, the E-type was discontinued and replaced by the more modern MCB F50 (model 1294), which among other things received a smaller tank (6 liters) and a completely different look.
Engine and the famous "motorcycle kit"
The heart of the E-type was the reliable fan-cooled Sachs 50/3 KFS engine – a 3-speed foot-shift engine with kick start.
Swedish legislation: To comply with Swedish moped legislation, the engine was restricted to 1 horsepower and a top speed of 30 km/h.
Light motorcycle: Since the frame and suspension (telescopic front fork and rear swingarm) were designed for higher speeds, MCB sold official "conversion kits". For approximately 500 kronor extra, the buyer could purchase a cylinder kit, carburetor, and exhaust pipe that enabled the engine to deliver 4.3 horsepower. The moped was then re-registered as a light motorcycle, making it a long-term investment for youngsters planning to get their motorcycle license at the age of 16.
Today, the Monark E-type is a highly sought-after collector's item among vintage moped enthusiasts. In particular, the early model years with the large chromed tank in untouched original condition command high values on the collector market.
