Beschreibung

The Saab 9-7X was never officially sold in Sweden, and this car was imported when it was almost new. It was registered in Sweden in September 2007. The current owner, a Saab enthusiast, bought it in 2021. Due to age and health reasons, he now needs to reduce his car collection.

The car drives nicely on the road and has a clean, attractive interior. However, it requires some servicing and repairs in order to pass inspection. It can be re-inspected until November 11; after that, a full inspection will be required. The Saab is sold unregistered for road use.

A machine polish would likely improve the car’s exterior appearance. Several receipts and inspection reports are included, as well as a service book. The latest inspection report could not be found at the time of photography, but a photo of the document is available here. Two keys are included, along with winter tires on original Saab alloy wheels.

Beurteilung Fahrzeugzustand

  • Zustand technisch:

    The engine starts and runs well, and the car is fully drivable. However, a driving ban has been issued following the inspection on September 11, when the Saab received five so-called “twos” (defects requiring repair). The owner has already fixed three of them: non-functioning license plate light, brake light, and turn signal. Still needing attention are a loose right outer tie rod end and the illuminated check engine light. According to the owner, this may be due to an injector issue, but that information is uncertain.

    The information system also indicates that an oil service is due. During the test drive, the engine temperature was normal, but the owner reports that the engine has occasionally run hot in the past, possibly due to a faulty thermostat or cooling fan. The air suspension compressor can be heard at startup and sometimes while driving, and the rear end appears slightly low. The air conditioning (A/C) does not cool. The radio/CD player powers on, but no sound is heard. Other electrical functions — including the wipers, fan, power windows, sunroof, and electrically adjustable front seats — were tested during the drive and worked properly.

  • Zustand Interieur:

    The interior is in good condition, featuring attractive light-colored leather upholstery, with carpets and headliner also in good shape. Generic rubber floor mats are included for three seating positions. The Saab has been detailed prior to sale. One section of the rear seat has what appears to be some mold on one side (see photo). The right-hand button panel on the steering wheel is missing, and the gear selector lacks the protective cover that shows the selected gear. A ventilation vent on the far right side of the dashboard is also missing.

  • Zustand Exterieur:

    The black paint is somewhat dull. There are several scratches on the car; some of them — though not all — are likely shallow enough to become much less visible after a machine polish. The front bumper has a small dent on the right side and doesn’t sit properly against the front fender. The front edge of the hood has been painted matte black, and rust is bubbling along the very front. This is more noticeable from underneath, where flakes of rust are coming off. Rust is also visible along the lower edges of the doors and on the underside of the car.

  • Zustand gesamt:

    A model that, when new, may not have been seen as a true Saab — but now, with the brand gone, stands out as an interesting part of the company’s history. This particular example needs some repairs to pass inspection, and once that’s done, its exterior appearance could easily be improved with a machine polish. The rust on the body is mainly limited to the hood, which would most likely be easiest to replace.

Fakten zum Modell

At the New York Auto Show in April 2004, Saab unveiled a model very different from anything the brand had ever produced before. The 9-7X was essentially a Chevrolet TrailBlazer transformed into a Saab, mainly through a redesigned front end and some interior details. Distinctive Saab features included the ignition key placed on the center console behind the gear selector, and an instrument panel resembling those found in other Saab models of the time.

However, this was a body-on-frame SUV with four-wheel drive, available at launch with either an inline six-cylinder engine featuring four-valve technology or a V8 — the first ever in a Saab. Later, another engine option was added: a larger V8 borrowed from the Corvette. The transmission was a four-speed Hydra-Matic automatic, with independent front suspension using coil springs, and rear air suspension with self-leveling.

Production took place at GM’s Moraine Assembly Plant in Ohio, USA, where not only the TrailBlazer and 9-7X were built, but also two sister models under different brand names: the Buick Rainier and Oldsmobile Bravada. The Saab 9-7X was primarily intended for the North American market, though a small number of cars were imported directly to Sweden. In the fall of 2008, it was announced that the model would be discontinued, and according to *Saab – alla bilarna 1947–2012* by Per-Börje Elg, a total of 20,417 units were produced between 2005 and 2008.

Important to know before placing your bids!
  • Once you have called in an item and the reservation price is reached we want you to deposit the entire purchase amount into our client funds account before retrieval can take place.
