Beschreibung

The owner lives in Dorotea and has owned the car for 3 years but feels that the summer is too short in northern Sweden to fully enjoy the car. The car was imported to Sweden in 1995 and has since had 11 registered owners, including car dealers. The latest approved inspection at the vehicle testing authority was in 2018, and the car is now exempt from periodic inspections and tax-exempt according to Swedish classic car regulations.

The car is equipped with a speedometer calibrated in miles. The odometer shows 4,505 miles, but we do not know the total mileage. The car comes with a spare wheel, jack, and one set of keys. The original instruction manual is missing.

This is a remote auction where the information about the car’s condition and pictures are provided by the owner. BWA has not inspected or test-driven the car on site.

Beurteilung Fahrzeugzustand

  • Zustand technisch:

According to the owner, it starts easily with a smooth and fine performance. Drives well on the road. Air conditioning not working, some parts like the compressor is missing. Two window lifts need an inspection, the front right window and rear window. You can hear the electric motors making noise, but nothing else happens.

  • Zustand Interieur:

Worn front sofa with holes in the fabric, otherwise nice. Attractive door panels and headliner. See pictures.

  • Zustand Exterieur:

The owner states that the paint is in good condition with only minor stone chips and marks. The chrome is in good working condition. Unfortunately, a vandal has scratched the trunk with a scratch approximately 30 cm long. See photo. New white sidewall tires were installed in 2024. One Lincoln emblem is broken.

  • Zustand gesamt:

Lincoln Continental in good overall condition. Here additionally equipped with a continental kit, external spare tire. Note on the front seat upholstery and some electric windows.

Fakten zum Modell

Lincoln Motor Company was founded in 1917 under a government contract to manufacture V12 Liberty aircraft engines used during the World War. After the war ended in 1918, Lincoln converted its factory and started producing cars instead. In 1922, Lincoln fell into financial difficulty and was purchased by Henry Ford.

Ford kept Lincoln as a more luxurious brand under the parent company Ford Motor Company. Fast forward to 1958, and Ford introduced a common platform for its Mercury-Edsel-Lincoln (M-E-L) division. This included the introduction of something called the Unibody, a new modern look with a monocoque construction. However, the development and manufacturing costs for the Unibody were extremely high, so much so that Lincoln lost $60 million (in the currency value of that time) between 1958 and 1960. In return, during that same period, Lincoln produced some of the biggest, longest, and coolest cars in the automotive world.

1960 was the last year for the large and massive body style. In 1961, Lincoln reduced the dimensions of its cars to lower production costs. In total, 24,820 Lincolns were sold in 1960. The most popular models were the Mark V Continental series, which sold 11,096 units.

The most popular version of the Mark V was the Landau hardtop sedan, with 6,604 units sold. The convertible was the second most popular, with 2,044 units sold.
