Beschreibung

The documentation for this Dodge Six Royal provides valuable historical context. It appears that the first owner took delivery of the car in 1939 from Göteborg, and the badge in the engine bay reads "Svenska Bilfabriken Stockholm AB." This suggests that these cars were likely built under license for Dodge/Chrysler in Sweden during that time period.

The comprehensive body-off renovation of the car, which began in 1990 and included detailed images of the restoration work, is an impressive undertaking. This extensive project was completed and the car was re-registered and inspected in the spring of 1992, following many hundreds of hours of dedicated work. The engine was rebuilt with the renovation of the cam axle, pistons, and rings, in addition to addressing all worn engine components, including the brake, fuel system, clutch, electrical system, suspension, and more.

The bodywork was repaired, and notably, rare NOS (New Old Stock) front wings were installed. The entire vehicle was then professionally repainted, and all the chrome components were fully rechromed. The interior underwent a complete renovation, featuring reupholstered seats, door cards, headliner, and all wooden trim, with the final touches provided by the Woodman company. This comprehensive restoration work and attention to detail have contributed to the car's outstanding condition and historical significance.

Beurteilung Fahrzeugzustand

  • Zustand technisch:

The car runs and drives very well and is in great condition, with a clean and well-maintained engine bay containing many newer parts. The underbody is spotless and features numerous newer components. Since it's inspection-exempt for life, a minor service and tune-up are all that's needed, especially considering it hasn't been driven much in the past year.

  • Zustand Interieur:

The interior, renovated 30 years ago, still impressively retains its top condition, showcasing the timeless 1930s charm and detailing without any damages.

  • Zustand Exterieur:

The entire bodywork remains solid, straight, and undamaged, with a fantastic underbody and gleaming chrome details and trims. While the paintwork overall appears nice with a shiny finish, there are some noticeable paint cracks and blemishes, primarily around the doors and door frames, as shown in the pictures. Otherwise, there are no other issues to report.

  • Zustand gesamt:

This rare and meticulously maintained vintage Dodge is ready to provide many enjoyable and happy years ahead.

Fakten zum Modell

Plymouth-based Dodges from 1939 were designated as part of the D-12 series, primarily produced for export markets. These cars featured a wheelbase of 114 inches and were distinctive due to their square-shaped headlights, a characteristic of Plymouth's 1939 models. In Canada, these vehicles were known as Dodge Six or Special De Luxe, depending on the level of finish. The larger American series, the D-11 Luxury Liner, had a 117-inch wheelbase and was referred to as the Custom in Canada.

It's intriguing to note that the term "Royals" was used for D-12 Dodges in Sweden, even though "Royal" was a trademark of the Chrysler Corporation and had been applied to various Chrysler and Dodge lines in the United States and Australia.
