Beschreibung

A Swedish-sold wagon that has travelled a few miles, 76,440 km, since January 1989. Despite several changes of ownership and garaged, it has been looked after and managed well over the years. It is straight and nice in the body. The current owner has refurbished the brakes with new pads and hoses. Also, it has been serviced less than 2000 km ago with oil, filter, brake fluid, anti-freeze, and inspected. A ready-to-drive cart.

Original tools and all original documents with the completed service book are included.

Beurteilung Fahrzeugzustand

  • Zustand technisch:

    The car appears to have been well taken care of, the engine spins nicely and the automatic transmission shifts as it should. The brakes have been fixed and work very well. The tyres need to be changed and the front suspension adjusted, for an optimal driving experience. There is a little vibration and pull to the right while driving.

  • Zustand Interieur:

    The interior is complete and in fine condition for its age with a mild patina. Everything seems to work, including the original Jaguar sound system. There is a slightly scratched and cracked wood veneer at the centre console between the seats. The boot compartment is in very good condition. The gas shocks for the boot lid need to be replaced. The alarm is disabled.


    The seller is a Jaguar enthusiast with a garage and driveway filled with these English aristocrats.

  • Zustand Exterieur:

    The paintwork is in good condition with some small bumps. Slightly bubbly in the lower left corner of the boot. Nice wheels without any damage, tyres not worn but old. The glass is in good condition, apart from the chrome at the top of the driver's side headlight bezel. The Convertible top is in perfect condition with some wear. The cover is in good condition. The chassis looks good and is stainless.

  • Zustand gesamt:

    The whole car gives a very good impression and it is a wagon in good original condition. After almost 35 years, there are details to improve, but they are just details.

Fakten zum Modell

Efterträdaren till E-typen, som presenterades 1975, hade i början svårt att ta över föregångarens ikoniska status. Delvis orättvist, för den nya XJ-S var en annan typ av vagn. Mer av en Grand Turismo, än renodlad sportbil. Säkerligen en flirt med den amerikanska marknaden. Samtidigt gjorde design och linjer att den såg ut att vara ett snabbt "landsvägslok" redan vid stillastående. Meningarna var delade men sakta men säkert blev den populär, just som en snabb och bekväm Grand Routier. V12.an som var den enda motorn som erbjöds från början var en kraftfull pjäs, om än törstig. Köparen kunde välja mellan att växla manuellt (fram tom 1979) eller med automatlåda. Manuell växellåda gjorde comeback när Jaguar även lanserade modellen med en sex-cylindrig motor på 3,6L som ett komplement till den stora motorn.

Från början var XJ-S endast tänkt som en Coupé. Det främst för att säkerhetsaspekter i USA och Europa medförde att glädjen och möjligheten att köpa och köra en öppen ny vagn, fasades ut. Som alltid är det marknaden som slutligen avgör och efter en tid efterfrågades och byggdes också enstaka öppna vagnar av XJ-S genom privata initiativ. Så i mitten av 80-talet kom en Targavariant likande BMW Bauer och Triumph Stag. Fast köparna ville ha än mer rufs i håret.

Till slut kunde man äntligen få sin XJ-S som riktig Cabriolet from årsmodell 1988.

År 1991 kom en facelift med bl.a. ett modifierat bakparti som anslöt till designen på övriga Jaguar-modeller. Då och under åren som följde blev motorerna uppgraderade, för sexan till 4,0L och för tolvan till 6,0L. År 1995 tas den senare motorn och XJ.S, nu utan bindestreck, ur produktion. Året efter försvann även den sexcylindriga varianten. Nu laddade Jaguar upp med efterträdaren XK8.

Så, om XJ-S hade en trög start, så hängde den till slut med i över 20 år och tillverkades i 115.413 exemplar. En ovanligt hög siffra för en vagn av den kalibern.
