That was probably why he was able to buy this Karmann Ghia – his second, incidentally. The convertible was not sold through regular channels at the time, but only by special order. It was used sparingly during the summers and is estimated to have been driven less than 5,000 km per year while in use. It was maintained meticulously and only driven in summer. When he went out to the coast, as he often did in his spare time, a tent was stretched over the car to protect it from the sun.
If it had been driven in the rain, the car was carefully washed and dried.
After his passing, the car was sold in 1996 to its second owner, who came to keep it for 23 years. During those years, barely 4,000 km were added.
The current owner purchased it in 2019 and has not used it much either.
The car is believed to have covered just over 100,000 km in total over the years.

Zustand technisch
Starts easily with a new battery.
Some leakage at the fuel pump noted.
Early on, the car was fitted with the now sought-after Abarth exhaust system, which remains in place today and gives it a slightly rawer sound than standard. The engine is the original one.
Furthermore, it has the original radio (not tested)
and an electrically heated rear window in the soft top. -
Zustand Interieur
Complete and nice interior with some spots from age and standing still.
Some surface rust on the gear lever and the like. Nice carpets, seats intact.
Original soft top in top condition on the outside, headliner intact with some age spots.
One incorrect window crank on the driver's door, the correct crank is included.
Overall nice and untouched interior. -
Zustand Exterieur
Straight and clean at the panel seams, showing no signs of ever having been taken apart. Fine original paint with some light scratches; bumpers intact, undamaged with slight patina. Exceptionally fine underneath. Properly undercoated by the first and second owners. There are no traces of any repairs or other work here.
Soft top in excellent condition with a very fine fit. Convertible top boot is included but has become a bit dry and has likely been rarely used. -
Zustand gesamt
This model was known for rust issues, especially in our latitudes. That an example like this has survived without any welding or panel replacement is close to unique. The car has been standing idle for some time and needs a going-over of the brakes, hoses, and seals, as well as some cleaning/polishing to reach near top condition for an unrestored car.
The underlying condition can only be described as fantastic.

General information about the condition of the vehicles .
- At this auction, many vehicles have been included in car collections and have been stored (mothballed) for a long time. For this reason, they are described from a collector's perspective and may need technical reviews and maintenance service - oil, battery replacement, new tires, brake review, etc. - before they can be used. .
- During the auction days information about a vehicle may be updated up to the day before the auction ends. When you bid at the end of the auction period - and also if you have made an earlier bid - we therefore ask you to read the descriptions carefully, in case something has been changed due to new information.
Important to know before placing your bids!
- Once you have called in an item and the reservation price is reached we want you to deposit the entire purchase amount into our client funds account before retrieval can take place.
- When you need to retrieve a called in object we want you to examine it carefully. If you consider that the item does not match our description you do not need to complete the purchase. In this case the deposited purchase sum and the entry fee are refunded.
- If you do not examine the item on the spot the call charge will be debited, but you do not have to complete the deal.
- If you make the entire purchase exclusively at a distance you have 14 days to cancel, but must return the item at your own expense.
- Your shipping costs and other costs are not reimbursed when the right of withdrawal is exercised. Swedish court applies.
- For items that have not been collected within 14 days storage costs may be charged.
