"A car that remains largely in its original configuration. Yes, it has received a replacement engine, and it was repainted nearly 40 years ago. Otherwise, it retains much of its original charm, with a nicely patinated interior, functioning semaphore turn signals, and a sunroof that brings the outdoors in."

Beschreibung

This car was registered for traffic in Sweden on October 5, 1953. The current owner acquired it in May 1985. According to reports, it has had four owners. The engine was replaced by the current owner, upgrading from 24 hp to 30 hp, and it runs smoothly. He also had the car repainted shortly after purchasing it. Originally, it had a dark blue cellulose paint, similar to metallic, with the original still visible inside the car. During the repainting, a dark blue Porsche color was chosen, closely matching the original.

The car has been part of a collection of enthusiast vehicles and has been driven sparingly over the past 30 years. The odometer currently reads 87,820 km, though it's uncertain how many times it has rolled over; most likely, the actual mileage is 187,820 km. It is inspected and ready to drive. Comes with the original instruction manual.

Beurteilung Fahrzeugzustand

  • Zustand technisch:

It starts easily and runs smoothly in both the engine and drivetrain. A compression test conducted just days before the inspection and test drive showed good and even values. The car performed well, feeling lively, with steering, clutch, shifting, and brakes all working properly. The test drive through Djurgården and around the city went well and was a pleasant nostalgic experience. People waved cheerfully from the sidewalks as we drove by. Although it wasn't inspected on a lift, everything visible underneath appeared to be in good condition, including the footboards and fender mounts.

  • Zustand Interieur:

The interior, reportedly in original condition, shows signs of wear and tear but has held up well after more than 70 years. The fuel gauge is not functioning and is loose. Otherwise, everything else appears to be working as it should.

  • Zustand Exterieur:

Repainted nearly 40 years ago, the car appeared slightly dusty during inspection but is considered to be in good condition for its age. The glass, chrome, rubber, and other details such as emblems and lighting components are all in good shape, considering the car’s years and mileage.

  • Zustand gesamt:

A solid and well-preserved car from the Swedish "Folkhem" era, never fully restored but well-maintained with a few updates, including a replacement engine and an older repaint. In wonderful condition, with a charming patina and a strong sense of its 1953 origins. A true classic and enthusiast’s car, offering both nostalgia and driving pleasure.

Fakten zum Modell

There are countless pages written about the history of the VW Beetle, from the project's inception in the 1930s, how English soldiers revived production after World War II, and how the first Beetles made their way to Sweden via Scania Vabis in 1948. So let's skip ahead five years to 1953. That year brought the split rear window “oval” design, and the vent windows were given locking buttons. The front received its small air vents, and later that year, an upgraded engine was introduced—1192 cc with 30 hp.

Year by year, small and larger changes continued until 1974, when the last Beetle was produced in Wolfsburg. The final Beetle produced in Europe rolled off the assembly line at the Emden plant in 1978. After that, production continued in Brazil and Mexico, but in 2003—50 years after this 1953 model was built—production of the enduring icon finally came to an end. In total, 21,429,480 VW Type 1 cars were manufactured.
