"It makes a fresh impression. A tough, sharp car that leaves many behind."

Beschreibung

A very well-maintained example of BMW’s tough Gran Turismo classic. This E31 is an 850i, which means it boasts the fantastic V12 engine with 296 hp and a four-speed automatic transmission from ZF. It is one of the few low-mileage cars still on the roads today. BMW’s 8-series was introduced as a replacement for the respected 6-series but never became a bestseller. However, it was BMW’s “top of the line” model, featuring plenty of modern technology such as the fine multilink rear suspension, electronically adjustable shock absorbers, and the first six-speed manual gearbox. This particular car, as mentioned, is equipped with an automatic transmission.

The car has been owned within the same “family” since new. It has been stored during periods when the owner worked abroad. Over the years, it has also been serviced in the owner’s workshop. After a few years in the garage, it received a service this summer, during which both fuel pumps were replaced. Subsequently, it passed inspection without any remarks. The odometer was read, and it seems likely that the car has not been driven more than 83,000 kilometers.

Beurteilung Fahrzeugzustand

  • Zustand technisch:

The gears shift smoothly, and the engine, transmission, and chassis feel healthy. The brakes engage evenly and effectively. The air conditioning is operational. The sunroof was not functioning at the time of the photoshoot.

  • Zustand Interieur:

A very nice and well-maintained interior. The leather upholstery is fresh and in perfect condition. The floor mats are nice and clean. The headliner fabric has come loose in a few places, as seen in the photos.

  • Zustand Exterieur:

It appears to be the original paint job. There are a few small stone chips on the hood and windshield from normal use. Paint peeling is present on the outer edges of the side mirrors, as seen in the photos. There is some scraping on the front, likely from transporting the car, as shown in the photo. The rims may need to be inspected, see photos.

  • Zustand gesamt:

A sporty, pleasant, and well-maintained car. A worthy representative of BMW’s grand and beautiful coupe tradition. In good running condition.

Fakten zum Modell

The E31 was the first generation of BMW’s large yet sporty 8-series, available with both V8 and V12 engines. When the car was presented at the Frankfurt Motor Show in late 1989, it was the result of nearly ten years of development work, and the design was significantly more modern than the old 6-series. The 8-series was the first production car with a V12 offered with a six-speed manual gearbox, and it was also one of the first with an electronic throttle. Along with the Z1, this was also one of BMW’s early models featuring a multilink rear suspension.

The E31 was available with a range of engines. At the very least was the 840i, which initially came with a 4-liter engine producing 282 hp. From the middle of 1995, it was sold with the slightly larger 4.4-liter engine with the same horsepower, but with better torque and slightly improved fuel economy.

The 850i arrived in 1990 and was BMW’s first model with a V12 engine, which in this case was five liters and produced 296 hp. It was available with either a four-speed automatic or a six-speed manual gearbox.

In connection with the introduction of the 850 CSi in 1992, the 850i was renamed to 850Ci. Additionally, the models were manufactured in parallel for two years. Not too confusing, really, but still a source of confusion because the 850i had the V12 with 296 hp, while the Ci had 322 hp.

At the top of the ladder was, however, the 850 CSi – essentially with the same engine as the 850i but modified to produce a whopping 375 hp. With four-wheel steering and modified suspension, the 850 CSi was something truly exceptional!
