Beschreibung

The current owner imported the Jaguar from the USA in 2001 as a restoration project. The body was sandblasted, and the metalwork was carried out by the renowned craftsman Bengt Blad in Uppsala. The paintwork was professionally done by a workshop in Örebro. The engine was rebuilt with new pistons and bearings, while the owner himself overhauled the gearbox.

Once the Jaguar was drivable, the owner took it to Normandy, France, where a British upholsterer created a new interior. A new dashboard was also made in England specifically for the car. Apart from the trip to France, the owner has continued to drive it regularly, and the odometer, which is limited to 100,000 km, now shows just over 70,000 km.

Beurteilung Fahrzeugzustand

  • Zustand technisch:

Starts easily, and the engine runs smoothly and evenly at idle, responding well to throttle input. Electrical functions such as lights, horn, and windshield wipers were tested at the time of documentation and were working properly.

  • Zustand Interieur:

The interior remains in very good condition following the extensive restoration the car underwent just over 20 years ago.

  • Zustand Exterieur:

The quality of the paintwork is still evident, with the body showing only a few minor scratches. There is a small, shallow dent on the right door. A rubber seal on the driver’s door frame is slightly damaged, as visible in one of the photos. Otherwise, the body is so well-sealed that the doors are a bit difficult to close.

  • Zustand gesamt:

A well-restored example with a body and interior in good condition, and with sound mechanical performance as well.

Fakten zum Modell

In today’s terms, it was a supercar that Jaguar unveiled at the London Motor Show at Earls Court in October 1948. The Jaguar 120 Aluminium Super Sports had been rapidly assembled using a shortened chassis from the Jaguar Mark V. Although the car’s design symbolized a brighter postwar future, it was above all the engine that captured attention.

The new XK engine was not only beautiful to look at, with its polished aluminum cam covers — it was also a technical marvel. The straight-six featured an aluminum cylinder head, twin overhead camshafts, hemispherical combustion chambers, two SU carburetors, and a seven-bearing crankshaft.

When production began in 1949, the cars had largely hand-built aluminum bodies. The engine produced 160 horsepower, and the car’s top speed of over 200 km/h was verified on several occasions, making the XK120 the fastest production car in the world at the time. From 1950 onward, the XK120 was fitted with a steel body, which added about 50 kg in weight.

In 1951, a fixed-head coupé version was introduced, and from 1953, a second convertible variant — the drophead coupé — joined the range. By the time the XK120 was replaced by the XK140 in 1954, just over 12,000 examples had been produced.
