"One of the most sought-after collector cars, in well-restored condition."

Beschreibung

The Jaguar was imported from the USA in 1988 by a friend of the current owner. He took ownership in 1991 and began an extensive restoration. The owner explains that he completely disassembled the car and had the body sandblasted. It was then professionally repainted in its original color. At that time, it received a new soft top, tonneau cover, and new wire wheels purchased in England. The upholstery was left untouched, and the chrome parts — such as the bumpers — were kept in their original condition.

Since the restoration was completed, the owner has used the E-Type during the summer months, though it has been stationary for the past two years. The car has a valid inspection, and a set of keys is included.

Beurteilung Fahrzeugzustand

  • Zustand technisch:

The engine starts, but the front carburetor appears to be sticking. The Jaguar is drivable, but due to this carburetor issue, no proper test drive has been carried out. After a couple of years of inactivity, the carburetors — and the car in general — would likely benefit from a service. Electrical functions have not been tested.

  • Zustand Interieur:

The leather upholstery on the driver’s seat has just the right amount of patina — it clearly shows its age and material but has no damage such as tears or holes. The passenger seat upholstery is in good condition. A fabric label from the manufacturer Britax on one of the seat belts has become frayed, though this does not affect the belt’s function. The soft top and its cover, the tonneau, are in good condition. A spare wheel and jack are included.

  • Zustand Exterieur:

The Jaguar was repainted during its 1990s restoration, and a machine polish would enhance the shine and remove some of the light surface scratches. The paint on the passenger-side door shows slight waviness in certain lighting. There are also a few stone chips and small dents in the paint, but overall it presents well. Chrome parts such as the bumpers and headlight surrounds show minor scratches and some pitting, consistent with their age. The rear bumper has a small, shallow dent, visible in a close-up photo.

  • Zustand gesamt:

The Jaguar E-Type has rightfully become one of the most iconic car models ever, celebrated for both its engineering and design. This well-restored example requires some recommissioning service to once again be fully reliable and ready to drive.

Fakten zum Modell

The Jaguar E-Type’s debut at the Geneva Motor Show in 1961 was straight out of a movie. A planning error meant the show car had to be driven at full speed from England to Switzerland to arrive in time for the opening. The mission succeeded — and the E-Type was an instant sensation!

It was initially offered as a two-seater coupé and a two-seater roadster. The design is generally credited to aerodynamicist Malcolm Sayer, who during World War II worked on engine nacelles and cowling designs for aircraft. At Jaguar, he had previously designed the body of the racing C-Type.

In its early years, the E-Type was powered by a six-cylinder, 3.8-liter engine, which in 1964 was enlarged to 4.2 liters while retaining the same output of 265 hp. In 1966, the 2+2 model was introduced, featuring a wheelbase extended by just over 20 cm, allowing room for a small rear seat suitable for children.

In 1968 came what later became known as the “Series 1.5” — still based on the same body, but incorporating a series of gradual changes throughout the year. The “Series 2” followed in 1969, distinguished by open headlights, and in 1971 came the “Series 3,” which replaced the six-cylinder engine with a V12. Production of the E-Type ended in 1974.
