Beschreibung

This 92B De Luxe was registered on October 27, 1955. The original owners from its early years remain to be researched, but we do know that in 1966, it was owned by a Mr. Lind in Trollhättan, bearing the regional license number P 53626. This is known thanks to a saved inspection protocol from AB Svensk Bilprovning. At that time, periodic vehicle inspection was a newly introduced requirement, mandated by law in 1965, resulting in many non-compliant cars ending up in scrapyards. However, the 11-year-old Saab 92 passed inspection without any remarks.

In 1967, the Saab was sold to Linds Sågverks & Trävaru AB in Kristinehamn for 600 kronor. When the car changed counties, it received a new regional license number, S 28916, indicating it now belonged to Värmland. There is no further known history of the Saab until 1998, when it was re-registered by Mr. Andersson, residing in Ale. The car was assigned its current registration number, AKE 456. Mr. Andersson restored the vehicle and owned it until 2014.

The current owner acquired the car in 2015 and has since performed continuous improvements, including: renovating the generator, starter motor, and radiator (with a new cell core), replacing all ignition components including new ignition coils, new radiator hoses, a renovated radiator shutter, and a rebuilt master brake cylinder. The front seats and rear seat have new upholstery and padding, among other updates.

The car comes with two sets of keys, a jack, a spare wheel, tools, and the original owner's manual. Additional documentation includes inspection records and a copy of an old registration certificate. Please see the images for a selection of documents. A custom-made steering lock is also included. Note that this model is equipped with old-style traffic indicators, which deploy a lit arm from the B-pillar. We recommend installing small, discreet indicator lights on the vehicle for improved road safety, as modern drivers are unlikely to be familiar with this function or have ever seen it in use.

Beurteilung Fahrzeugzustand

  • Zustand technisch:

    Front-wheel drive with a two-cylinder two-stroke engine of 764 cc producing a stated 28 horsepower, and equipped with a 3-speed gearbox with column shift. The gearbox also includes Saab's hallmark feature, the so-called freewheel. Everything works without any issues. It is surprisingly strong for its small two-stroke engine. This might be because the engine has reportedly been renovated. The car's technology has been significantly invested in recent years. See description. New 6-volt starter battery in 2023. The only technical note is that the diagonal tires are old with some dry cracks, so replacing the tires is recommended.

  • Zustand Interieur:

    Stylish and cozy interior. The seats and rear bench have been restored with new upholstery. The headliner is new and correctly modeled. The rubber floor mat is newly manufactured. The front and rear door panels are original. See the photos for details. All instruments are in working order.

  • Zustand Exterieur:

    Repainted about 15 years ago, according to the owner. The paint is shiny and nice, though not completely perfect. There are some dust particles and a slightly rougher surface in some areas. However, this is not distinctive. There is a scratch on the hood right next to the left headlight, as well as a dent on the right front fender. See pictures. The grille and front bumper have been rechromed. The rear bumper is in good working condition. The rubber seals around the front and rear windshields are dry. See the pictures. Overall, the car makes a very good external impression. The underside also looks very good.

  • Zustand gesamt:

    A proper and pleasant vintage car in very good condition that constantly attracts attention. This vehicle should be enjoyed without haste and is best suited for smaller roads at a leisurely pace.

Jag har nu ägt bilen sedan 2015 och varje år förbättrat bilens skick. Tyvärr har jag inte längre möjlighet att behålla min entusiastbil och hoppas att den kommer till en äkta Saab-entusiast. Jag har en del extra reservdelar liggandes som nya ägaren kan köpa till om så önskas.

Fakten zum Modell

The automotive division of SAAB came to life in 1947, with the first model, the Saab 92, borrowing some design cues from the aviation industry. When the first production year of the Saab 92 was finally released as the 1950 model, following years of testing and its premiere on June 10, 1947, there was already a long waiting list. Initially, production was slow, with only 1,246 cars manufactured in the first year. In the early years, the cars were bottle green in De Luxe trim.

For the 1953 model year, the first major changes were introduced, such as a larger rear window, a relocated fuel tank, and the addition of a trunk lid. The trunk space was also increased when the battery was moved to the engine compartment. Seats were also updated. Internally, it was now called the 92B. For the 1954 model year, a series of upgrades were made, and the model was officially referred to as the 92B. A new carburetor (Solex 32) and new ignition coils increased engine output from 25 to 28 horsepower. The paint was now synthetic, and decorative strips were added to the fenders. The wheels gained ventilation holes. New headlights from Hella with integrated parking lights replaced the small lamps between the headlights, grille, and fenders. The instrumentation and interior details were also modified. Colors available were gray, blue-gray, green, maroon red, and black. On March 6, 1954, the 10,000th Saab rolled off the assembly line. Customers could now also order their 92 with a fabric sunroof. The last Saab 92s were produced in 1956, by which time its successor, the model 93, had already been introduced. A total of 34,956 units of the model 92 were manufactured, of which 14,828 were the B version.
