"A wonderful car from the late 1920s, which is externally in an untouched original condition with patina, and is technically complete but has been resting for a little over ten years now."

Beschreibung

According to information, this car was sold new in Sweden. It was found in a garage in Sundbyberg in 1959 when an elderly lady had passed away. It probably hadn't been driven since World War II and had suffered an accident where the gearbox was damaged, likely occurring during the 1930s. There is some history available, but with the help of the National and Regional Archives, more details from the car's early history can likely be uncovered.

In 1960, the car was acquired by Automobiles AB Citroën in Stockholm. It was entirely in its original condition but received some new interior work and an engine overhaul at that time. These works were not of the highest quality. After this, the car toured various Citroën dealerships from Malmö to Luleå. During that time, it acquired some scratches and dents. In 1973, it was acquired by the motor enthusiast Gunnar Elmgren. The current owner acquired it from him in June 1975 and has now owned it for 48 years, half of its 96-year lifespan.

He did some work immediately, including the exhaust system, fuel system, and tank. In 1978, the engine was overhauled, correcting some earlier mistakes with incorrect assembly without regard for markings, etc., and replacing piston rings and bolts. At that point, the engine regained proper running condition and strength. In 2006, new and correct tires were obtained, Michelin Confort Bibendum. Over the years, the car has participated in various vintage car rallies, transported wedding couples, students, and family outings. Since 1960, the car has driven less than 500 miles. The last drive was on April 28, 2011, and since then, the car has been stored in a garage. New photos were taken from there, as well as photos from the time when it was in use.

Beurteilung Fahrzeugzustand

  • Zustand technisch:

Current owner has prepared and used it as an enthusiast's car. Everything is there, but now it's time for a thorough check and getting it up and running again.

  • Zustand Interieur:

Seats and door panels, etc., were refurbished over 60 years ago and are in good condition but can be redone and improved. This would also provide the opportunity to restore the rear seat, which is a later construction. The frames for the separate chairs in the back are still intact and included. The headliner and storage nets in the front are in original condition. So are the steering wheel and instrumentation. The clock, which is "a pocket watch," is functional and ticks when wound. Carpets are okay, as are the boards underneath. An original chassis plate is on the passenger side.

  • Zustand Exterieur:

It appears to be entirely in original condition with paintwork from 1927. Newer tires, but the spare wheel's tire is original from the manufacturing, hard as an ice hockey puck but unique. Windows and the impressive Marchal headlights are in fine original condition. The engine compartment is in good condition, and it also includes the original jack and various tools for wheel changes, as well as a crank.

  • Zustand gesamt:

This car might not be one you just throw into traffic, but regardless of how the new owner plans to use it, it's a vehicle that's approaching antique status. It's a Swedish-French motorhistorically interesting car and a collector's item.

Fakten zum Modell

Boldness, creativity, and technology are three words associated with one of the pioneers in the automotive industry, André Citroën, who founded the car company that was named after his last name in 1919. The first car to come out of the factory at Quai de Javel in Paris was the Citroën Type A. In 1926, after a series of interesting models, it was time for the B14 model, where the chassis, engine, gearbox, and rear axle were completely new. Thanks to its high reliability and modern design, demand soared, and production reached new records of 400 cars per day. That year, Citroën opened factories in Slough and Brussels, and even before that, they were present in Milan and Cologne.

The new model had some issues with torsional rigidity, which were addressed, and from 1927, it was named the B14F. At that point, it also received hydraulic brakes, which were only available on luxury cars at the time. The engine in our car, in 1927, was a four-cylinder inline engine with a displacement of 1539 cc, producing 22 hp with magneto ignition. Cooling was not water-based but thermosiphon cooling. It had a Solex carburetor and a 6-volt electrical system. Three gears and reverse, with hydraulic brakes operating on all four wheels. The body was self-supporting and made of steel. As was common at the time, a variety of body styles were produced, from open to closed cars in different sizes, as well as utility vehicles. A total of 119,467 B14 model cars were manufactured from 1926 to 1928.
