Beschreibung

This car has a history of at least 30 years on the historic racing scene. For most of that time, it was actively raced in Finland, with regular appearances in Sweden as well.

The current owner purchased the car in 2020 and initially competed in a few races, facing some mechanical setbacks. However, in recent years, he has completed full seasons with solid results, considering his age and racing ambitions.

Regardless of past performances, the car still has the potential to compete for top positions, and with the right driver, it could even fight for wins in its class.

Beurteilung Fahrzeugzustand

  • Zustand technisch:

Newly rebuilt engine and cylinder head by renowned and reputable builders. The head has been meticulously and extensively refined for optimal airflow and performance.

  • Zustand Interieur:

Race-functional and finely tuned to the right degree. The most essential controls are housed in a small aluminum box to the right of the driver on the floor. A clearly visible mechanical reverse lockout is positioned on the gear lever, providing an added layer of mechanical safety.

  • Zustand Exterieur:

Beautifully red, without any battle scars from the racetrack. Surprisingly well-preserved bumpers with overriders and fender trim, perfect for rubbing shoulders with competitors.

Features stylish, period-correct strap fasteners for the hood, adding to its classic racing look. An extra set of wheels is included, and the old Finnish registration plate remains as a quirky historical detail.

  • Zustand gesamt:

Fresh and comfortably user-friendly in race trim, combined with a stylish and representative appearance. And most importantly, it comes with the performance and potential to match.

Fakten zum Modell

One person who truly appreciated the Mini was John Cooper, who at the time ran a Formula racing team. He was already using BMC engines in his cars and knew their potential. An idea was born.

John Cooper reached out to Alec Issigonis, but Issigonis was not at all interested in putting a more powerful engine in his beloved Mini. He saw it as a car for the people, not the racing machine that Cooper envisioned.

However, in 1961, Cooper finally got his way, and an enlarged 997cc (57 hp) version of the original 850cc (37 hp) engine was developed. This marked the birth of the Mini Cooper. The new Cooper received disc brakes and a distinctive interior, as well as a contrasting roof color.

A more powerful version was introduced in 1963—the Cooper S 1071cc, which also featured larger and stronger disc brakes.

1964 was a pivotal year, with the introduction of three new engine variants:

Cooper S 1275cc
Cooper S 970cc
A more street-friendly 998cc for the regular Cooper.
The reason for so many different engine variants was the classification system in racing, which grouped cars by engine displacement. There were classes for cars up to 850cc, 1000cc, 1150cc, and 1300cc, meaning there was a Mini for every category.
