"This bike stormed through World War II and had only two owners until 2013. After decades of negotiation, it found its third owner—still from the same area—who has lovingly cared for and ridden it ever since."

"This bike stormed through World War II and had only two owners until 2013. After decades of negotiation, it found its third owner—still from the same area—who has lovingly cared for and ridden it ever since."

Beschreibung

This bike served in World War II in North Africa with the Canadian military before being imported to Sweden in 1946 and registered as F7812. It was first owned by Mr. Holm in Malmbäck, who repainted it green in 1948, covering its original sand-colored military finish.

In 1965, it caught the eye of Lennart, a well-known local carpenter and motorcycle enthusiast. After spotting it in the owners garage, he struck a deal—offering free labor and 400 kr in exchange for the keys. From then on, Lennart made it his daily ride throughout the 1960s and 1970s, its roaring engine becoming a familiar sound to everyone in the local area.

The current owner spent decades trying to acquire the bike from Lennart and finally succeeded in 2013. Since then, it has been ridden yearly and regularly appears at classic car and motorcycle shows. Remarkably, with just a few kicks, it fired up and was even ridden by the owner in the attached film.

Always maintained in good running condition, older notes indicate that the engine underwent work and renovation approximately 15–20 years ago. It still retains its original military features, including the engine skid plate, special oil filter, low-beam military lights, double seat, and saddlebags.

Complete with extensive vintage documentation, this is truly a remarkable machine in every sense!

Fakten zum Modell

Prior to World War II, the Canadian Army, known as the Canadian National Defense Forces, primarily used Norton, BSA, and Indian motorcycles, preferring to align with their British Commonwealth partners. However, as the war progressed, England could not supply enough motorcycles to meet Canada’s needs, forcing them to seek alternative manufacturers.

After the fall of France, the British took over an Indian Motorcycle contract originally intended for the French Army and supplied several Indian Chief models to Canada. Pleased with their performance, Canada placed additional orders for both the Chief and the 640 Scout model directly from Indian.

However, as Indian struggled to meet spare parts demands and various issues arose with the bikes, Canada began looking for another supplier. This search led them to Harley-Davidson. Like Indian, Harley provided both 45ci Solo models and Big Twins, designated as the WLC and ELC models, respectively.

The model designation 'C' indicates a motorcycle developed specifically for the Canadian National Defense Forces, while 'L' stands for High Compression. However, this did not necessarily reflect compression levels at the time. The 'W' signifies that the motorcycle is equipped with a 45 cubic inch, side-valve engine, introduced in 1937. Harley-Davidson maintained this naming convention, altering only the last letter to denote variations of existing models.
