Beschreibung

This example of the Citroën Ami 8 has lived a secluded life since 1986. That year, it was purchased by a devoted Citroën enthusiast, almost freshly inspected, driven straight home, and parked in a barn—where it remained for a full 39 years.

The car was originally sold in Sweden and delivered to the northern parts of the country. The few examples sold in Norrland were equipped with a petrol-powered heater to cope with the harsh climate—and the factory-installed Eberspächer heater is still in place and correctly fitted.

Cosmetically, the car is largely untouched and presents true “barn find” condition—a restoration project for someone ready to take on an unusual classic.

The engine has been started a few times over the years but has most likely not run in the past ten years. It can be turned slightly using a screwdriver against the starter ring gear, but a valve has probably stuck. Attempts were made over the winter to resolve the issue, but the engine still only turns about a quarter of a revolution.

The odometer shows just over 16,000 km, though it has most likely rolled over at least once, which seems reasonable considering the years the car was actually in use before being stored.

The estate version is very rare today. For those who appreciate the 2 CV, this represents a unique opportunity to acquire the estate variant—technically almost a 2 CV throughout, complete with the wonderful two-cylinder engine that happily putters along and revs willingly.

Beurteilung Fahrzeugzustand

  • Zustand technisch:

Not started. The engine turns part of the way when the crankshaft is rotated, then stops—most likely due to a valve stuck in the open position. The car’s entire mechanical and electrical systems should be thoroughly inspected, as it has been standing unused for many years.

  • Zustand Interieur:

The interior is in need of restoration. Most parts are present, but it requires care and attention. The mold on the dashboard should not be difficult to remove.

  • Zustand Exterieur:

Worn condition. Dull paint. Rust present – see photos. In need of restoration.

  • Zustand gesamt:

An unusual restoration project for the enthusiast. Not beyond saving, but it will require the right person to take it on.

Fakten zum Modell

The Citroën AMI 8 Combi is a classic small French car produced from the late 1960s to the late 1970s. It belongs to the Ami series, and the “Combi” (estate) body style offered additional cargo space compared to the standard sedan version.

Production period: 1969–1973 (for the AMI 8 Break/Combi) according to many sources, although some variants continued slightly longer in certain markets.
Body style: 5-door estate – more spacious than the sedan and practical for family use or carrying goods.
Engine: Small air-cooled 602 cc two-cylinder boxer engine (approximately 33 hp), similar in design to the engines used in other small Citroën models such as the 2CV.
Performance: Top speed around 115–120 km/h with low fuel consumption – efficient for its time.
Drivetrain: Front-wheel drive with a four-speed manual gearbox.

Design and Features

The AMI 8 was introduced in 1969 as the successor to the more eccentric Ami 6, featuring a more streamlined appearance and a more conventional rear window, while still retaining Citroën’s distinctive charm.

The estate version had a full-height rear tailgate and a cargo area that was easy to load thanks to a low loading sill and rear door.

The rear seat could be folded down or removed entirely for increased cargo capacity.

This model sold well among rural buyers and became popular as a versatile vehicle for both work and leisure.

About the Ami Series

The AMI 8 is based on the same technical platform as Citroën’s simpler 2CV models, offering very straightforward mechanics, low weight, and low running costs.
