Beschreibung

This car was re-registered in 1988 and was most likely originally sold in Sweden. The body was restored sometime in the late 1980s or early 1990s. Renowned Citroën enthusiast Peter Larsson and his company CTA in Norrtälje replaced the engine and installed an alternator in the early 2000s. It has always been cared for by dedicated Citroën owners. In recent years, it has mostly been kept in a garage and was part of a collection in Nynäshamn. The photos are newly taken, but some are from the previous change of ownership when we sold it in September 2023—this includes the video clips. It has been driven 76 kilometers since then.

Beurteilung Fahrzeugzustand

  • Zustand technisch:

It started easily and the engine ran smoothly and calmly. During a short test drive, everything appeared to function well in terms of steering, clutch, gear shifting, road handling, and brakes.
It hasn’t been inspected on a lift, but a visual check underneath the car was relatively easy to perform and everything looked good.

  • Zustand Interieur:

The interior is complete, clean, and tidy, giving a fresh impression on board. The carpets and headliner convey the same feeling. Steering wheel, controls, dashboard, and gauges are all in great condition. Everything appears to be working well.

  • Zustand Exterieur:

Attractive black cellulose paint with a nicely polished look that maintains an authentic feel. Fitted with classic and durable Michelin X tires, as it should be, all with good tread.

  • Zustand gesamt:

It doesn't get more French than this. Automotive historian Quentin Wilson has called this car a milestone in motoring history and the most significant and successful standard car of its time. Here we have a delightful classic in excellent enthusiast and collector condition.

Fakten zum Modell

Boldness, creativity, and engineering are three words closely associated with one of the pioneers of the automotive industry, André Citroën, who in 1919 founded the car company that bore his surname. The first model to roll out from the factory at Quai de Javel in Paris was the Citroën Type A. From the very beginning, the company became synonymous with unconventional and technically advanced cars featuring distinctive designs.

In the 1930s, Citroën launched its first major success: the Traction Avant, created by André Lefèbvre and Flaminio Bertoni. For its time, it was a cutting-edge car, featuring front-wheel drive, a low center of gravity, and excellent road handling. Production began in the spring of 1934 with the 7A version, which quickly evolved into the 7B later that same year, powered by a 1.5-liter engine producing 35 hp. That autumn, a larger-bodied version called the 11A was introduced. After several development stages, the 11B version arrived in February 1937.

Following World War II, production resumed in the autumn of 1945. Initially, only the Berline versions were produced, and these cars became known as the B11—short for Berline 11—indicating a sedan in the 11CV tax class, which corresponded to 56 hp. The larger and slightly more luxurious sister model, the B15, featured a six-cylinder engine and fell into the 15CV tax class due to its higher output.

Production ceased in July 1957 to make way for the new DS model. However, toward the end of the production run, Citroën experimented with its new gas-hydraulic suspension system in the 15H model, fitting the innovative rear suspension as a test.

Between 1934 and 1957, the Traction Avant was produced in numerous body styles and configurations, with four- and six-cylinder engines ranging from 34 hp to 77 hp. The most common body types were Légère (Sport), Normale, and Familiale. "Traction Avant" was never an official designation—models were simply named B7 to B15 with suffixes indicating body style—but they became popularly known as “Gangster Citroëns” due to their frequent appearances in French crime films.

According to records, a total of 759,123 units were produced.
