Beschreibung
According to the service records, the car had around 64,000 km on the clock when it arrived in Sweden, and it now shows 233,957 km. It still drives very well and feels tight, with strong performance in the upper rev range—as you’d expect from a proper ’80s performance car. With approximately 185 hp, it accelerates from 0–100 km/h in 7.8 seconds. ABS was a standout feature at the time. True to Mercedes build quality, there are no rattles or loose trim—something rare among cars of this era
Teknische Daten
Beurteilung Fahrzeugzustand
-
Zustand technisch
The car starts instantly and runs and drives well, with no warning lights or signs of leaks. Recent work by the owner includes new rear brake calipers, generator, brake and fuel lines, as well as a recent service with fresh oil, spark plugs, and air filter. The gearbox shifts smoothly, the car feels balanced on the road, and the brakes are solid. It’s inspected until 2026-10-31, exempt from road tax, and ready to be driven home.
-
Zustand Interieur
Interior is clean and tidy. The driver’s seat shows wear on the cushion, while the rest of the seats are in good condition, with some light scratches on the leather—mainly on the rear seats (see photos). All gauges are functioning, and although no AC is fitted, a new radio has been installed. The electric mirrors and three of the four windows work; the rear right passenger window is currently not functioning.
-
Zustand Exterieur
The car presents well—clean and bright overall—but a closer inspection reveals some age-related flaws. There is rust on the inner edges of the doors, touch-ups around the rear plastic wheel trim, and some paint blisters in various areas (see photos). A small cutout is visible on the lower rear edge of the bumper, and there’s a stone chip on the lower left corner of the windscreen. The paintwork is generally bright, though the plastic door trims show slightly matte paint. The underbody is clean, with some surface rust around the jacking points.
-
Zustand gesamt
A great driver’s car that puts a big smile on your face—an increasingly valuable youngtimer that can be enjoyed as it is for many summers to come. At some point, however, the rust around the door edges and trim will need attention.

Fakten zum Modell
To meet these requirements, Mercedes enlisted the British engineering firm Cosworth to develop an engine suitable for the 190 series. However, the cars that competed in the championship had to be based on a production model, so Mercedes had to produce a limited number of 190 cars equipped with a toned-down version of the Cosworth engine. This high-performance model became known as the 190 E 2.3-16V.
The "E" in the model name "190 E" stands for "Einspritzung," which means fuel injection in German. Mercedes introduced their high-performance version, marketed as the 190 E 2.3-16V, at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1983. The regular 190 model used a carburetor, but the 190 E featured Bosch KE-Jetronic multi-point fuel injection. Mercedes wanted to compete in the Deutsche Tourenwagen Meisterschaft (DTM) (German Touring Car Championship) motorsport series, which required cars based on production models.

When it was launched in September 1983, the 190 E 2.3-16V already had a reputation. Prior to the launch, three slightly modified cars had set three world records in August at the Nardo test facility in Italy, achieving a combined average speed of 154.06 mph (247.94 km/h) during a 50,000 km endurance test and establishing twelve international endurance records.
