Beschreibung
After the owner passed away, the next owner took over the car in 2009 and continued in the same spirit. It was rarely used and was once again stored in a heated garage, this time in Farsta. As a result, the Volvo has relatively low mileage, showing just 93,000 km.
Since 2017, the car has essentially been standing still and has only been started occasionally. Some documentation, including inspection records and other papers dating back to the 1980s onwards, has been preserved and will accompany the car, along with two keys.
Teknische Daten
Beurteilung Fahrzeugzustand
-
Zustand technisch
The engine starts easily. Once the engine reaches operating temperature, the cooling system builds up excess pressure and pushes out coolant. This may possibly be due to a crack in the cylinder head. There are no signs of water in the engine oil.
Given the car’s limited use over the years, it should receive a comprehensive recommissioning service and a thorough inspection of its various systems. New water pump and thermostat fitted.
The car is equipped with a tow hitch. -
Zustand Interieur
The interior is in good condition with signs of normal use. There are a few burn marks on the driver’s seat cushion and on the carpet in front of the gear lever. The headliner is intact, though somewhat dirty.
-
Zustand Exterieur
The paintwork does not reflect the car’s low mileage, see photos. There are various minor damages and areas of rust in several places, see photos. Underneath, the car appears to be in relatively good condition.
-
Zustand gesamt
A Volvo with plenty of potential to improve. With some care, time, and attention, it could become a dependable classic companion. The car will need to pass inspection before being put back on the road.

Fakten zum Modell
Over the years, countless versions and updates were introduced. When the new 740 model arrived in 1984, many may have thought the “old” 240 had reached the end of the road, but Volvo shifted up another gear and continued to further develop the 240.
Various engines became available throughout its production run, including petrol, diesel, and turbocharged versions. It was even offered as a gas-powered model. The 240 was produced in two-door, four-door, and five-door body styles. Different trim levels added sportiness or luxury, but perhaps the most genuine were the DL and GL models, which became part of the fabric of the Swedish welfare-era lifestyle.
Initially, the GL model was positioned as a more upscale version, but over time it evolved into the entry-level and standard model by the 1979 model year. For the 1980 model year, all models received internally adjustable side mirrors. The B23A engine was introduced and became standard in the GL model.
There may have been faster cars on the market, but few could match the Volvo 240’s combination of simplicity, durability, quality, and safety — a down-to-earth family car in the truest sense. In total, more than 2.8 million Volvo 240s were built between 1974 and 1993, and today this once-everyday people’s car and now 50-year-old classic has become a collectible in its own right.
