Beschreibung

This is an exceptionally well-preserved and complete car that has only had four owners, with the most recent owner keeping it in their car collection for 44 years. The owner explains that they drove the car for four seasons and then stored it away because they noticed paint and rust blisters starting to appear on the sills and wheel arches. "The car was so red and beautiful when I bought it, and the engine had been recently rebuilt (at 13,600 miles), but the underlying work was probably poorly done, so it wasn't enjoyable to drive despite being lively and handling great."

The owner had intended to repair the rust issues and repaint the car, but other cars came into the picture, and the car ended up sitting as the years went by. However, the owner has started the car and taken it for a spin every year until eight years ago. Since then, it hasn't been started. It has been stored in a dry place and smells fresh inside.

All 356 models were susceptible to rust, and this car was nearly 20 years old when it was stored. There are some visible welds in the spare tire well and cracked filler on the sills and front fenders, but no holes. The car was originally white, then repainted in yellow in the 1970s before becoming red prior to the current owner's purchase. The interior is completely untouched and original, although the dashboard has been repainted.

"SC" stands for "Super C model" and was the most powerful base variant for the 356 in the last two model years, 1964 and 1965. The 1964 model year introduced a slightly more powerful engine at 95 horsepower and disc brakes. In addition to the "Super 90 engine" in this car (engine number P 821011), there were also options with 60 horsepower and 75 horsepower engines.

Beurteilung Fahrzeugzustand

  • Zustand technisch:

The car rolls easily and the handbrake works well. The foot brake is stiff. The brake system needs to be renovated. However, the disks look okay. The engine turns over but doesn't ignite (there's no spark). The tank is empty but looks intact. The electrical system, lights and buttons look okay. The battery (6V) is missing. The owner has told us that the engine was renovated shortly before the purchase in 1979 and this is also noted in the instruction manual (at a mileage of 36,000 km). Since the odometer rolls over at 100,000 km, we estimate that the engine was renovated at 136,000 km and the car has now driven 148,977 km.

  • Zustand Interieur:

Unusually well-maintained interior. Seat upholstery and door panels original. The padding on top of the dashboard may have been replaced at some point as it is black. Suspect it was originally dark red. Carpets are original and normally worn. Headliner is unusually intact and in good condition, as are the instruments and buttons. There is no unpleasant odor in the car and it is dry under the carpets, etc. Additionally, we have not found any signs of rodent infestation. However, there is a small hole in the floor behind the driver's seat at the lowest point. We will lift the car and investigate this before bidding begins. We will provide additional information about the floor and undercarriage once we have looked under the car.

  • Zustand Exterieur:

Complete unrepaired body, with poor paint. Blisters and cracks are present in the lower edges all around. The car does not appear to have been in a traffic accident. Gaps and spaces align well. Doors and hoods close tightly. Repainted twice. Oxide spots on chrome details. My spontaneous reaction when looking at the car is that it is not necessary to renovate the body. It only needs to be fixed in the places where there are blisters and then rustproofed and spot painted. After that, the car can be used as it is because it still looks well-cared for.

  • Zustand gesamt:

This rare and well-preserved car can be used as it is after a technical inspection and addressing a few rust spots or blemishes. It is likely that some areas will require significant attention and repair when working on these areas.

Additionally, the car is in unusually good condition for those interested in undertaking a complete restoration or a so-called rolling restoration, where improvements are made while the car remains drivable.

Fakten zum Modell

The cautious production of the Porsche 356 began as early as 1948. However, manufacturing soon shifted to Germany, where the real production took off. The Porsche 356A was introduced in the fall of 1955 and was available with engines ranging from 1300 cc to 1600 cc.

At the end of 1959, Porsche launched the B model, which featured higher-placed bumpers and headlights compared to its predecessor. Additionally, ventilation windows were added to the doors, and the seats were mounted closer to the floor. There were various engine options available, ranging from 60 to 140 horsepower.

In July 1963, the final generation of the Porsche 356, the C model, was introduced. The car now featured disc brakes, improved suspension, and handling characteristics. The interior had a more modern instrument panel, and the doors were equipped with armrests. The last Porsche 356 rolled off the assembly line in September 1965.
