"This particular car has been stored in a garage for over 30 years, and it may have been longer as it still has its original number plate, O12340. While the car is complete, it is showing signs of wear and tear. The engine and mechanical condition are currently unknown and untested, but it is safe to assume that it will require a full overhaul, review, and renovation to get it back to a roadworthy state."

Beschreibung

This car is being sold on behalf of the owner's estate, and the history of the car is somewhat limited. However, a registration request has been made from Stats Arvik, and an update will be provided once they report back.

According to available information, the car was sold in Sweden and delivered in May 1936. Its registration number "O" indicates that it originated from the Gothenburg area. The car has "matching numbers," which have been confirmed (please see pictures). The Mercedes Karosserie number is 346 432, the engine number is 129 740 - 102147.846, and the chassis number is 209408.

While the car does need a full renovation, its complete nature will make the restoration process easier. Additionally, its thick steel construction means that most of the rust present is surface rust (please refer to pictures for more details).

Beurteilung Fahrzeugzustand

  • Zustand technisch:

Under the bonnet, the engine appears to be complete, and it seems that the distributor cap and coil may have been replaced with a more modern version, likely indicating that the car was in use in the 1960s. However, the engine has not been started or tested, and its condition is currently unknown.

Although the car can still roll, it will require a winch to be loaded onto a trailer for transportation.

  • Zustand Interieur:

The interior of the car is complete and original, but the blue striped textile seats and carpets show signs of wear and damage. However, the dashboard, steering wheel, and instrumentation are all complete and in good condition. The sliding roof is complete, but it is heavily worn and has not been tested.

  • Zustand Exterieur:

The bodywork of the car is complete, but it has mainly surface rust around the lower body and panel gaps around the wings. There is also some rust present on the underbody, but it is primarily surface rust due to the car's robust construction (please refer to pictures for more details).

Although the chrome work, trims, double spare wheels, and other original details are present, they are currently oxidized and will need restoration work.

  • Zustand gesamt:

If you are looking for a rare and exquisite car to renovate back to its former glory, this Mercedes 200 model W21 Cabrio Coach from 1936 is definitely worth considering.

Fakten zum Modell

The Mercedes W21 was a midsize luxury car produced by Mercedes-Benz from 1935 to 1938. It was offered in several body styles, including sedans, cabriolets, and limousines. The W21 was powered by a 2.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine, which produced around 55 horsepower. It featured a four-speed manual transmission and was rear-wheel drive.

The W21 was considered an advanced car for its time, with several features that were not commonly found on other vehicles of the era. These included a hydraulic braking system, an independent front suspension, and an all-steel body.

The Cabrio Coach variant was a two-door convertible that featured a folding soft top and seating for four passengers. It was a popular model among wealthy customers who wanted a luxurious and stylish open-top car for cruising.
