Beschreibung
The Volvo was fitted with a range of period accessories, including a snowcap, front spoiler, side stripes, rear window louver, storage compartments, and protective grilles for the headlights. In issue 1/2020 of the Volvo 140 Club magazine, Thore’s son wrote about his father’s car, noting that it had never received a single remark during its annual inspections.
In the autumn of 1998, Thore purchased a used Volvo 940, which replaced the 140 as his daily driver. From then on, the car was only used sparingly. In 2025, Thore’s estate sold the Volvo to its current owner. He has since serviced it with fresh engine oil and new rear axle oil. In addition, he has replaced the exhaust system, fitted a replacement spare-wheel well, and renewed the gas struts supporting the trunk lid.
The car passed inspection in September 2025 and, under current regulations, is now exempt from further periodic inspections. A large collection of original documents accompanies the vehicle, along with two sets of keys.

Zustand technisch
The engine starts easily and runs smoothly, as does the gearbox. During the test drive, no issues were noted with the suspension or braking system. The electrical functions were tested, and the only items found not to be working were the clock and the radio. Cassette playback functions, but the antenna cable appears to be disconnected.
The tires are of an older vintage but still have acceptable tread depth. The brake fluid appears somewhat cloudy and should therefore be replaced. Rust is present in the reflectors of the auxiliary driving lights. -
Zustand Interieur
The brown upholstery still presents well, although the driver's seat has a tear in the vinyl on the seat cushion. Over the years, several mounts for mobile phones have been fitted to the dashboard. The car features a number of interesting accessories, including Volvo’s original storage compartment and a more unusual addition in the form of an econometer, which remains in working order.
The latch for the vent window on the passenger door is missing. It can be replaced with an aftermarket unit that simply clips into place. -
Zustand Exterieur
It's hard not to smile at the car's colorful bodywork. A closer inspection reveals a number of small dents, paint touch-ups, and areas of surface rust. There are two rust holes behind the front bumper, which represent the most significant corrosion on the vehicle.
Typical rust-prone areas on this model, such as the rear wheel arch lips, have survived remarkably well and show only minor surface rust. The left rear mudflap is missing. -
Zustand gesamt
A car that has, in practical terms, had just one owner, bringing with it many of the benefits that such long-term ownership often provides. The original documentation remains with the vehicle, and even the key fob from Bil & Truck—the dealership that sold the car in 1973—is still included.
While the bodywork bears the marks and imperfections that come with age, it also possesses a great deal of character. For the next owner, the car is ready to be enjoyed from day one, with any improvements or restoration work able to be carried out gradually over time.

Fakten zum Modell
The most notable exterior change was the redesigned rear end featuring horizontal taillights. At the front, the car received a new plastic grille and larger turn signals. Inside, Volvo introduced a new dashboard with an updated speedometer and redesigned heater controls. The steering wheel was also new and equipped with protective padding.
In several respects, the 1973 model year was truly special. It marked the peak of 140 Series production, with a total of 214,770 cars built, and it was also the year in which the model achieved its highest sales figures in Sweden. During the same model year, Volvo produced the one-millionth Volvo 140—the first Volvo model ever to surpass one million units built.
The final record set in 1973 was perhaps the most significant of all. That year, the United States became Volvo’s largest passenger-car market, a position it would retain for decades to come.
