Beurteilung Fahrzeugzustand

Zustand technisch
It hasn’t run or moved in 20 years, but it has a replacement engine that still turns over—see video. The engine was installed in 2000 and ran well at the time. Other functions are uncertain, but everything appears to be present.
The body and undercarriage are rusty. -
Zustand Interieur
After an extended period outdoors, the interior and upholstery are in worn condition. The seat coverings are a mix of vinyl and suede. The cabin is complete with steering wheel, controls, dashboard, and gauges. The headliner is in poor shape, and the sunroof is missing its inner trim entirely. There is rust damage at the passenger-side floor area, with holes large enough to see the ground below.
-
Zustand Exterieur
The body is worn and rusty. Glass, chrome trim, emblems, moldings, and lighting components are in usable condition. The “450” emblem is not correct. Comes with four Baroque-style wheels fitted with older tires. In the trunk, there is rust damage on the right side with visible holes through to the ground.

Zustand gesamt
A charming 1970s coupé and grand tourer. Whether it becomes a full restoration project or a donor car is a question for the next owner to decide.

Fakten zum Modell
What we do know is that the new 300 SL race car with gullwing doors debuted in 1952 and was eventually produced in a more civilized road-going version from 1954 to 1957. When it was discontinued, it was replaced by an open-top Roadster with similar performance and styling, built from 1957 to 1963.
At the same time, Mercedes also produced a more modest and refined SL model, the R121 Mercedes 190 SL, built from 1955 to 1963. When the time came to replace both of these, only one model emerged: the W113 Mercedes 230 SL, nicknamed the Pagoda. Over the years 1963–1971, this evolved into the 250 SL and later the 280 SL.
Then, in April 1971, the Pagoda’s successor arrived – the R107 Mercedes 350 SL, equipped with a 3.5-liter V8 engine producing 200 hp. Safety, technology, and handling were all significantly improved over its predecessor. By 1973, the 450 SL with 225 hp was introduced, primarily for the U.S. market. For the 1974 model year, Mercedes reintroduced a six-cylinder variant. Minor updates continued through the years, with the final model year being 1989, when the next generation – the R129 – was launched.
Once nicknamed things like Pizza racer and Dallas moped, the R107 has now earned its place on the podium among classic Mercedes sports cars, proudly wearing the SL badge with full honors.
As usual, it’s the open-top versions that have captured most of the attention. Likely because after the Gullwing, no closed coupe followed—yes, various SL models were available with a removable hardtop, but when the R107 was introduced in 1971, a fixed-roof coupé followed about six months later. This was the C107, or SLC as it came to be known. Often overlooked, the SLC has steadily gained appreciation and followers over the years. It became a beautifully styled grand tourer with rear seats and shared the same mechanical underpinnings as the convertible version. In total, 62,888 examples of the C107 were produced.
