Volvos T-5R and 850 R models were considered collector's items almost from day one. Today, they are even more sought after and serve as delightful representatives of a somewhat wild era. Many have the image of Volvo's racing cars in Estate form ingrained in their minds. This left a lasting impression both in the automotive press and sales statistics. Here we have a clear red R model in excellent condition, which has already achieved cult and classic status, making it a highly interesting vehicle in Swedish motor history.

Fakten zum Modell
It was a massive investment for the time, estimated at 16 billion, when the model was completed and presented in 1991. While Volvo retained core values of quality and safety, they also moved up towards the premium class and gained a significantly more modern and sporty image.
The project, known as Galaxy, had been initiated by PG Gyllenhammar as early as 1978. Designed by Jan Vilsgaard, the 850 stood proudly on the podium at its premiere at the Globe Arena on June 11, 1991, leaving the automotive world amazed. From 1992 to 1996, new variants of the 850 continuously appeared. Initially, it featured a four-door body, and later in 1993, a five-door Estate, following the well-known Volvo tradition. The Estate version even participated in racing events for excellent PR and brand promotion. Volvo succeeded in maintaining their loyal customer base with calm and reliable versions, while also attracting new customer groups with turbocharged options, all-wheel drive, vibrant colors, and luxurious interiors.
The 850 T-5R, initially known as "T-Gul" (T-Yellow), was produced in 1994 and 1995. It was Volvo's fastest, most powerful, and most expensive car ever. Although they were initially released in yellow, hence the name, they were also offered in other more discreet colors over the course of production. For the 1996 model year, Volvo introduced another model that became their fastest and most expensive ever, the Volvo 850 R. The chassis was modified by TWR (Tom Walkinshaw Racing), and new components made the new model less harsh on the road. It received a new intercooler, an updated exhaust manifold, and a larger turbocharger, resulting in a 10 horsepower increase compared to the T-5R. A new red color was introduced at the launch, appropriately named "T-Röd" (T-Red) although other colors were also available.
For the 1997 model year, an updated version of the 850 was introduced, which eventually led to the S70 and V70 models. But that's a whole different story.
