Beschreibung

This car was sold new in Sweden in 1969, a two-door Signet with a "pillar" and the small six-cylinder engine with a 904 transmission. For many years, it led a relatively calm life in its original condition, with few owners and just over 100 000 kilometers on the odometer. Eventually, it ended up with Jocke Wennerberg in Ekerö, and that's when the excitement began. Since the body and other parts were in great original condition, he decided to embark on a "sleeper project."

The engine is a 440, which was initially equipped with a nitrous oxide system in a Dodge Charger, achieving a best time of 10.6 seconds and a top speed of 202 km/h. In the Valiant, it received slightly smaller headers and no nitrous oxide. As Jocke expressed in an article in Gasoline 2018, it's a rather mild machine that roars nicely when you want it to... According to him, it produces around 500 horsepower without nitrous oxide.

So, what do we have under the hood?
A forged crankshaft with Six-Pack rods, Mopar originals. Forged pistons, Edelbrock RPM heads, and a camshaft from Crane Cams, a nitrous cam that provides just the right lift, hydraulic. Edelbrock Torker II intake manifold on top of that. At the top, there's a Holly 870 carburetor. The ignition system is from MSD, including the distributor, a six-cylinder coil, and a box. Mopar Performance oil pump. ARP screws everywhere. Schumacher and Tri-Y headers. They are specially designed to fit a big-block in a Plymouth A-body. The torque converter and transmission were built by Tucken at Danielssons. The rear axle is a custom-order Mooser with a limited-slip differential imported from the USA. The engine bay had to be modified to fit everything but was professionally executed with precision. There's a Line Lock function operated from the steering wheel. The water pump is a special one designed for cruising, with an electric pump from Craig Davids that is used, among other places, in the Australian outback. The car is relatively discreet overall, except for the special wheels, tires, and sturdy rear pipes (copper). There's also an advanced music sound system in the car. The current owner, who acquired the car in August 2020 at an odometer reading of 046069, has left their mark on the car but has driven it very sparingly. It also received new main bearings last winter and has only been driven about 10 kilometers since that update. Now, at an odometer reading of 058711, it's time for a new "pilot" for this powerhouse.

  • Zustand technisch:

    Based on my understanding, it appears to be professionally built and well-functioning. According to Rod experts, the engine is "bulletproof." Of course, a machine like this requires appropriate maintenance and care to keep it in top condition.

  • Zustand Interieur:

    The interior, including the seats, rear seat, headliner, and other original components, is in excellent condition. There are also several additional gauges and technology installed, which appear to be functioning well.

  • Zustand Exterieur:

    The original paint, chrome, and glass are in good and well-preserved condition, although there are some small dents, scratches, and stone chips. It is possible that some parts, such as a door, may have been repainted. The wheels and tires are in excellent condition. The engine compartment has been modified but appears to be optimized for its purpose. The trunk is in good condition and includes the original spare tire. Additionally, the trunk houses the power unit for an advanced sound system.

  • Zustand gesamt:

    It is a well-constructed "sleeper" on a beautiful original vehicle, blending the charm of the original design with the exhilaration of a high-performance engine. The result is a unique and captivating automobile that offers both style and power.

Fakten zum Modell

The Plymouth Valiant was manufactured as a model year from 1960 to 1976, but there was some confusion regarding its name initially. Initially, it was called just the Valiant, but it quickly became the Chrysler Valiant, and in 1961, it was renamed the Plymouth Valiant. However, on the export market, it continued to be called the Chrysler Valiant until 1964. In Sweden, ANA was the general agent for the Valiant. The first generation was a compact car for the USA market, competing with the Ford Falcon and Chevrolet Corvair, among others. The first-generation Valiant had small fins and the famous trunk lid with a depression like a spare wheel tub. The second generation arrived in 1963, with changes in the body design, the fins disappeared, and the model became less sculpted, following the design trends. In 1967, the third generation was introduced, bringing another body change and slightly increasing in size. It offered engines ranging from six cylinders to V8s, available with manual or automatic transmissions. Initially, it had push-button controls, but in 1965, a column shifter was introduced, and in 1966, a floor shifter was offered. Throughout the years, there were different body versions available, such as Sedan, 2-door Coupe with a pillar, Hardtop (HT), Convertible, and Station Wagon. However, the third generation was only available as a Sedan and 2-door Coupe without HT design until 1971 when the HT version made a comeback. The final years saw the fourth generation being manufactured from 1974 to 1976. In Sweden, the Valiant was popular as a police car and taxi. It was known for its good performance and spaciousness for its time, making it a familiar model from the 1960s and 1970s.
