"This three-wheeler can be driven with either a category B driving licence or a motorcycle licence, which makes it easier for the buyer. The vehicle has not been driven since 2018 and the latest approved inspection was in 2006. You can take the Trojan home on a trailer to carry out maintenance and a thorough inspection. A new starter battery also needs to be obtained. Following a technical review, the vehicle must undergo an inspection with the motor vehicle inspection authority and receive an approved certificate of roadworthiness. Then you can set out and drive this unique contraption. So to the big question: Is it a Heinkel or a Trojan? Read the history of the model below and perhaps it will become clear."

Beschreibung

The current owner received this car from her father in 2001. Her father had owned the vehicle since 1984. The car also served as the wedding car at the owner's wedding.

The car is affectionately named Amanita. For those familiar with Latin, the name has a special significance. During the 1950s, a coffee set bearing the same name was produced by Uppsala Ekeby and designed by Helmer Ringström. The cups were red with white spots, inspired by the fly agaric mushroom. Amanita is the Latin name for this mushroom, making the nickname a fitting one for this charming microcar.

Microcars were very popular in Sweden during the 1950s. The Heinkel Trojan was particularly common on Swedish roads, and it is said that as much as 15% of the total production was delivered to Sweden. One of the main reasons for its success was that the three-wheeled version was legally classified as a motorcycle. This meant it could be driven with a motorcycle licence, while benefiting from lower vehicle tax.

The owner has now decided to part with her beloved wedding car and hopes that its new owner will continue to call it Amanita.

Included with the car are an extra door, a rear engine cover, and a spare wheel. Please refer to the photos.

This is a distance auction. All photographs and information regarding the vehicle and its technical condition have been provided by the owner. Bilweb Auctions (BWA) has not carried out an on-site inspection of the vehicle.

Beurteilung Fahrzeugzustand

  • Zustand technisch

The motorcycle was last started and driven 8 years ago, since then it has been stored in an unheated shed. Equipped with a single-cylinder, air-cooled four-stroke engine with overhead valves (OHV) of 198 cc producing approximately 10 horsepower. Equipped with a combined starter motor and generator, a so-called Dynastart, mounted directly on the crankshaft. No starter battery.

  • Zustand Interieur

Interior in working condition with wear, extremely minimalist and period-typical. Everything is designed to save weight, space and production costs. Side panels and rear seat upholstery are missing. Differing color on gear lever and steering wheel.

  • Zustand Exterieur

Repainted in the 1990s. There are minor paint chips and a small dent in the bodywork. It should be noted that there is a crack in the paint below the right headlight, as well as a damaged hinge on the rear hatch. See the images for more information. Equipped with older diagonal-ply tyres that show the normal amount of age cracks.

  • Zustand gesamt

Quirky and unusual motorcycle car. Requires a service inspection before starting the vehicle for longer journeys.

Fakten zum Modell

The Heinkel Trojan (more commonly known as Heinkel Kabine) is an iconic German microcar designed by aircraft manufacturer Heinkel Flugzeugwerke and produced between 1956 and 1965. The model was built under licence in several countries, and took the name Trojan when British company Trojan Ltd took over production in England.

Manufacturing history in three stages:

1. Germany (1956–1958): Production started at Heinkel in Speyer. Over 11,000 cars were built before aircraft production became permitted for the company again.

2. Ireland (1958–1960): The licence was sold to Dundalk Engineering in Ireland, but production ceased quickly due to quality problems.

3. England (1961–1965): Trojan Ltd in Croydon purchased the rights and marketed the car as Trojan 200. Trojan assembled around 8,500 cars in England during the early 1960s. They built both three- and four-wheeled versions, often right-hand drive for the British market.

Now to the big question: Should the present car be called Heinkel or Trojan? The short answer is that it depends on who the manufacturer was. Vehicles built in England by Trojan Ltd are generally known as Trojans. This vehicle's chassis number XR7849 indicates that it is a Trojan built in England. There are also unconfirmed reports that an X in the chassis number indicates that the vehicle was intended for the Swedish market. According to the vehicle register, the car is registered as HEINKEL KABINE T 153. This raises the next question: Was the vehicle instead built in Ireland? To clarify these exciting questions, we recommend the buyer becoming a member of the MC-bilklubben.
