Beschreibung

This example is powered by a two-cylinder boxer engine of 425cc, producing 12 horsepower. This despite the fact that a direct translation of “2CV” means two horses in French. In reality, the name refers to its French tax rating of two “chevaux fiscaux.” The modest power is sufficient for this lightweight car, whose soft suspension leans alarmingly for an unaccustomed 2CV driver – but for the initiated, this is very much part of the charm. The suspension also swallows road irregularities with ease. A “sleeping policeman” – or speed bump – hardly bothers this French classic.

This is also a model for the outdoors enthusiast, able to tackle rough roads with simple means. There are several ways to open it up to see and experience nature, including rolling back the roof all the way to the base of the rear hatch.

Beurteilung Fahrzeugzustand

  • Zustand technisch:

    We have started the car, but it did not run well. Upon inspection, it turned out that the spark plug threads in the cylinder head are in very poor condition and require repair. Apart from this, we have not been able to verify its technical condition. The ignition key can be used, although it is doubtful if it originally belongs to the car. The battery has seen better days and may need replacement.

    “Battled,” as the English would say. Well-used, with dents, touch-up paint, and modifications. Roof in good condition. Truck rear lights. For all other details, see photos.

    A fun, yellow car that, with a general inspection and engine repair, should be drivable in its current usable condition. The key used as the ignition key is the only one available.

Fakten zum Modell

Pierre Boulanger had designed prototypes for a light car just before the Second World War. The idea was to create a vehicle as simple as possible so that poor farmers could afford one to transport their goods to market and perform maintenance themselves with basic tools. By the standards of its time, the Citroën 2CV was a spacious, comfortable, and very fuel-efficient car with good drivability and reliability. Everything else was sacrificed. The engineering level was extremely high, and the car can be regarded as remarkably advanced despite its deliberate simplicity.

The model featured a two-cylinder, air-cooled boxer engine with front-wheel drive through a fully synchronized four-speed gearbox, with a centrifugal clutch available as an option. The gear lever was of the so-called “umbrella handle” type, and the body could easily be dismantled without tools. An ammeter and a speedometer were the only instruments, and fuel was measured with a dipstick. The windscreen wipers were powered by the speedometer cable. Anything deemed unnecessary was simply not applied to the car.

The shock absorbers consisted of wear-free counterweight dampers instead of conventional hydraulic dampers, which needed replacement. Front and rear suspension were interconnected with a common spring unit on each side along the sills. This had the effect that if the front wheel dropped into a pothole, the rear wheel on the same side would push down and absorb the shock — and vice versa when climbing, for example, a kerb. This also provided a certain anti-roll effect. The suspension therefore resembled the Hydrolastic system, although here it was purely mechanical.

The road handling was relatively good despite the soft suspension and considerable body roll. This was due to the long control arms, which gave a long suspension travel. According to a persistent rumour, one of the design requirements was that the car should be able to drive across a freshly ploughed field while the driver wore a top hat.

Important to know before placing your bids!
  • Once you have called in an item and the reservation price is reached we want you to deposit the entire purchase amount into our client funds account before retrieval can take place.
  • When you need to retrieve a called in object we want you to examine it carefully. If you consider that the item does not match our description you do not need to complete the purchase. In this case the deposited purchase sum and the entry fee are refunded.
  • If you do not examine the item on the spot the call charge will be debited, but you do not have to complete the deal.
  • If you make the entire purchase exclusively at a distance you have 14 days to cancel, but must return the item at your own expense.
  • Your shipping costs and other costs are not reimbursed when the right of withdrawal is exercised. Swedish court applies.
  • For items that have not been collected within 14 days storage costs may be charged.
