"An incredibly charming little car. In good usable condition, but a start-up service and a brake overhaul are necessary."

Beschreibung

A true classic from the early 1960s, when microcars became a common sight on European roads.

This car was restored in the late 1990s and resprayed in its original colour. It is a bit unclear what work was carried out on the engine. The car has been standing unused for over 20 years and will require a start-up service.

First registered in 1962, it came into the possession of the current owner in 1982. It was driven occasionally during the first years of their ownership, but has remained unused since its last inspection in 2002.

Beurteilung Fahrzeugzustand

  • Zustand technisch:

As the car has not been started, it was difficult at the time of inspection to determine much about its technical functions. What we have been able to confirm is that the engine turns freely, the car rolls, and the brakes are not seized. An inspection and service of the engine and brakes will be necessary. The glass surfaces and lights are in good condition. The tyres are old but have good tread depth.

  • Zustand Interieur:

The interior is in good, usable condition. A thorough detailing would significantly enhance the overall impression. There is a thumbnail-sized hole in the seat, but otherwise it is in good condition.

  • Zustand Exterieur:

The paintwork has held up very well, with no damage that we have been able to detect and a good shine to the finish. The car has been stored in a dry and heated space.

  • Zustand gesamt:

This is a car in very good usable condition, and with a bit of attention to the technical aspects, it could soon be back on the road.

Fakten zum Modell

History of the BMW Isetta 300

The BMW Isetta 300 is an iconic microcar first introduced in the 1950s. Here is an overview of its history:

The BMW Isetta was originally designed by the Italian company Iso SpA as a small, economical car for post-war Europe. The first model, the Iso Isetta, was launched in 1953.

The Isetta’s design quickly caught BMW’s attention, and in 1954 the company purchased the rights to produce the car. BMW’s engineers made several modifications to meet their standards and improve performance.

The BMW Isetta 300 featured a unique design with a single front door that opened forwards, providing easy access to the small cabin. It was equipped with a 298 cc, single-cylinder engine producing around 12 horsepower, giving it a top speed of approximately 50 km/h.

During the 1950s, the Isetta became a symbol of the economical and practical car culture of post-war Europe. It was popular thanks to its compact size, low fuel consumption, and affordable price. Between 1954 and 1962, over 160,000 units were produced.

The BMW Isetta 300 came in several versions, including a two-seater model and a four-seater variant. There were also versions with different equipment levels and colours.

Production of the BMW Isetta ended in 1962 as demand shifted towards larger and more powerful cars. Nevertheless, the Isetta has remained a beloved classic and a symbol of 1950s automotive culture.

The BMW Isetta has appeared in various films, TV shows, and advertising campaigns, contributing to its cult status. It remains popular among collectors and enthusiasts today.

In summary, the BMW Isetta 300 is a historically significant microcar that represented a time of innovation and change in the automotive industry, and it continues to fascinate car lovers around the world.
