Citroën GS Club Break 1.2 — 1979

Citroën GS Club Break. Say those words to a modern motorist and they might not know what you're talking about. A Citroën enthusiast, on the other hand, can tell you that the GS is a very cool car with an air-cooled engine, introduced at the Paris Motor Show in 1970. This GS was sold new in Sweden and has an interesting history from the north of the country.

"An unusual classic car saved by a Citroën enthusiast. The first owner family had it until the year 2000. Since then, it has mostly been stored away. Considering its history and condition, it is likely that the odometer reading of 60,000 km is accurate. A ready-to-drive car with only visual remarks."

Beschreibung

The car was sold new in 1979 by the legendary dealership Forsgrens Bilfynd in Abborrträsk. The first owner was sports personality Hugo Lenman, residing in Arvidsjaur. He was meticulous in maintaining his red GS. He kept the car until his passing in 1995. It remained in the family until 2000, when Forsgrens Bilfynd bought the car back. Forsgrens appreciated the well-kept and at that time over 20-year-old car, so they kept it as a nice advertising piece.

In 2004, it was sold to a young man who moved to Björkvik. He stored the car at his father's place in Boden and used it during visits to his hometown. Unfortunately, it was stored outdoors for many years. The current owner, a knowledgeable Citroën enthusiast, got a tip about a rare GS Club Break parked outside in a garden in Boden. He decided to try to save the car. After persistent persuasion, he finally managed to buy the car in 2019.

The current owner immediately set to work on the car, installing a new battery and starter motor, and servicing it, which also included an overhaul of the hydraulic system. Over the years, he has made ongoing improvements, which can be read about in the owner's comments.

The car comes with a spare wheel, jack, service notes, and an instruction manual. The owner is also including a set of new brake pads and extra wheels. The stylish brochure for the GS model is also included.

This is a remote auction, which means the car has not been inspected or test-driven on-site by BWA staff.

Beurteilung Fahrzeugzustand

  • Zustand technisch:

Four-cylinder air-cooled flat engine with a 1.2-liter displacement. The tax horsepower was rated at 60. It starts easily and runs well. A new timing belt and tensioner were installed in 2023 at 56,750 km. Last serviced on 2023-10-04 with new engine oil and filter. New NOS wheels and new Michelin tires were installed in 2021.

  • Zustand Interieur:

The interior looks very nice. There is a sunburned hole on the backrest of the driver's seat. See picture.

  • Zustand Exterieur:

Gives an overall good impression. There is a small dent that runs as a straight line on the right side of the body, extending from the front fender backward. See the pictures.
The left rear fender has been repaired at some point. Moisture has gotten under the filler, causing rust blisters; the owner has not found any rust holes, only surface rust on the fender. There is also surface rust on the inside lower edge of the tailgate. Both rocker panels have been patched by a professional on the upper side in the door openings, and are only primed. Please look carefully at all the pictures to form an opinion about the condition.

  • Zustand gesamt:

In Sweden, this is now a rare model. Most Citroën GS cars have succumbed to the ravages of time. This one is in good usable condition. Nothing has been rebuilt or modified. If you repaint the rear fender and touch up other areas, this car can become a gem with relatively little effort.

Kommentar vom Besitzer

(NOS, New Old Stock, betyder äldre oanvänd reservdel i originalutförande och motsvarande nyskick)

Fakten zum Modell

Citroën GS at the Paris Motor Show in 1970. The Citroën GS was manufactured between 1970 and 1979. The car was technically very advanced with zero-point suspended front wheels, centrally mounted front disc brakes, and a somewhat simplified hydraulic system from the DS/ID. The car was also produced in station wagon and sedan variants called Break and Berline, respectively. The most common engine sizes were 1015 and 1220 cubic centimeters, but there were a few other versions in France due to tax laws. The engine is air-cooled, which is not very common in today's cars. GS was also produced in 1974 and 1975 with a Wankel engine in 847 examples, but they did not work well and were recalled and scrapped.
