He was given the opportunity to buy the car in England after being one of only a few journalists to receive exclusive accreditation for a heavyweight boxing match in Japan between Muhammad Ali and Mac Foster. His report from the fight was sold to newspapers around the world, and he saved part of the proceeds towards the Bentley.
Around the same time, the family moved to Paris, where the owner surprised his wife and their friends by collecting them from a theatre visit in the newly purchased Bentley. The car was used during summer stays at his childhood home in Båstad, maintained and serviced through friends in England, driven on visits to his diplomat parents in Switzerland and, of course, used at the family home in Paris.
During this period, the car was most likely registered and insured in England through a friend living there. The British number plates included among the parts strongly support this.
The car was imported into Sweden in 2002 and registered for road use in August 2005. It was subsequently used mainly at the owner’s home in Stockholm and at the family’s summer house in Båstad. In recent years, the Bentley has been stored and used at the latter location.
Its most recent and final approved roadworthiness inspection under the current regulations was carried out on 5 September 2017.

Zustand technisch
The engine starts easily and effortlessly, runs quietly and pulls strongly through the gears with good torque. It runs slightly unevenly at times, but this should be rectified with fresh fuel together with adjustment and inspection of the ignition system and carburettors.
The engine received a new cylinder-head gasket three years ago, at the same time as the oil-filter housing was modified to accept a more modern filter connection. The car has also at some point been converted from the original positive-earth electrical system to negative earth, possibly as early as the 1970s. -
Zustand Interieur
A stylish, bright and airy interior with fine leather upholstery. The carpets, door cards and headlining are all in good condition. The manually operated and distinctly mechanical sunroof opens and closes easily. The equally manual rear-window blind is smoothly operated using a control running along the headlining above the driver’s seat.
The car is fitted with inertia-reel seat belts of 1980s design, as well as a cassette radio from the same period. The walnut dashboard has an attractive patina, with only a small area of flaking near the windscreen at the lower right-hand corner. -
Zustand Exterieur
The car was probably repainted in its original colour sometime during the 1970s. The paintwork remains glossy and attractive in places, but there are a number of areas with damage and marks. The doors show visible corrosion along their lower edges, and there is rust damage to non-structural sections of the underside. The car is fitted with older Michelin tyres that still have good tread depth.

Zustand gesamt
Beautifully styled, with all the character associated with British luxury cars of the period. It offers a good driving experience and makes a sound technical impression. The bodywork imperfections are perfectly acceptable for an owner who is happy to live with them, in which case the car represents good value. However, bringing everything up to a high standard would involve more extensive bodywork and repainting.

Fakten zum Modell
The R-Type replaced the Bentley Mark VI and was sometimes also referred to as the Mark VII. It was powered by a 4.6-litre straight-six engine producing 130 bhp, paired with a four-speed manual gearbox, while a desirable four-speed automatic transmission was available as an option.
The model was contemporary with the Rolls-Royce Silver Dawn and differed from it only in a few respects, most notably the grille and carburettor arrangement. A total of 2,531 Bentleys were sold, of which 295 received coachbuilt bodies, while the Rolls-Royce sister model sold only 760 examples.
With its competition heritage and twin SU Type H6 carburettors, the Bentley had a sportier aura, which contributed to its sales success. Of the Bentleys produced, 208 were built in the faster R-Type Continental specification. It used the same engine, but with modified carburettors, a different intake system, a different exhaust manifold and a higher final-drive ratio.
These changes made the Continental the fastest four-seat production saloon in the world, reinforcing the marque’s sportier image. The R-Type was also produced in fast and elegantly styled coupé and convertible versions by a variety of coachbuilders.

- At this auction, many vehicles have been included in car collections and have been stored (mothballed) for a long time. For this reason, they are described from a collector's perspective and may need technical reviews and maintenance service - oil, battery replacement, new tires, brake review, etc. - before they can be used. .
- During the auction days information about a vehicle may be updated up to the day before the auction ends. When you bid at the end of the auction period - and also if you have made an earlier bid - we therefore ask you to read the descriptions carefully, in case something has been changed due to new information.
Important to know before placing your bids!
- Once you have called in an item and the reservation price is reached we want you to deposit the entire purchase amount into our client funds account before retrieval can take place.
- When you need to retrieve a called in object we want you to examine it carefully. If you consider that the item does not match our description you do not need to complete the purchase. In this case the deposited purchase sum and the entry fee are refunded.
- If you do not examine the item on the spot the call charge will be debited, but you do not have to complete the deal.
- If you make the entire purchase exclusively at a distance you have 14 days to cancel, but must return the item at your own expense.
- Your shipping costs and other costs are not reimbursed when the right of withdrawal is exercised. Swedish court applies.
- For items that have not been collected within 14 days storage costs may be charged.
