Beschreibung

This motorcycle comes with an interesting history. According to previous accounts, this Indian 741 was gifted to a former owner by a relative in 1957. After being rebuilt at a vocational school—where the engine was overhauled and bored out to 600 cc—the bike was used until the end of 1959. It was then sold to “Leif” in Arjeplog for the modest sum of 60 kronor.

After a few years of use, the motorcycle was stolen and hidden away in a barn in Stensund. Around 1980, Leif received a tip about its location and reclaimed the bike. It was returned to his garage in Arjeplog, where he began planning a restoration. Sadly, the restoration never happened, as Leif drowned in 1987.

Later that year, the previous owner was given the opportunity to buy the bike back, which he did in the autumn of 1991, transporting it to Jakobsberg. After some test runs and reflection, he decided to sell the Indian on, lacking the time and money for a full restoration.

During the current owner’s tenure, the motorcycle has been reassembled after previously being taken apart. It has been converted to a 12-volt system with an alternator. The wheels have been re-laced, and the rear now has a 16-inch rim. Many parts have been chromed, including the front fork, brake plates, and engine covers. The handlebar is raised and re-chromed, and the engine is fitted with an Amal carburetor.

Fakten zum Modell

When the United States entered World War II in 1941, Indian—like Harley-Davidson—began producing motorcycles for the military. The Indian 741 Scout was developed from the smaller 30.50 cubic inch (500 cc) Scout series and was adapted to be lightweight, reliable, and easy to maintain in the field.

Over 35,000 units were produced between 1941 and 1945, and the motorcycle was used not only by the U.S. Army but also by Allied forces—including the British and Canadian armies—through the Lend-Lease program.
