"It has only driven 2000 kilometers since the full restoration. It is inspected and ready to drive."

Beschreibung

After a full restoration that took 2,000 hours, the pickup was road-ready, inspected, and approved by the Swedish Vehicle Inspection in March 2022.

This pickup began its life as a delivery chassis. Volvo's delivery chassis PV445 was introduced in 1959 as a complement to the PV444 passenger car. These delivery chassis were supplied to various independent coachbuilding companies around the country. One of these companies was Gladsax Karosseri in Simrishamn (officially known as AB Bröderna Anderssons Karosserifabrik). There, the chassis, with number 1173, was completed into a pickup. The first owner of the pickup was a construction company in Kalmar. After a few more owners in the Kalmar region, the pickup ended up in Sandviken in 1974.

In 1987, the pickup was found by a man named Stefan. The vehicle was in a miserable state, but despite its poor condition, the pickup was purchased. However, the restoration never gained proper momentum, and in 1991, the vehicle was sold to a haulage company owner in Piteå. Stefan kept the phone number of the buyer, and in 2019, he called the owner to ask if the pickup was still around. It had been 28 years, but the pickup was still there, in just as poor condition. It was Stefan's second chance, and he bought the vehicle back. He then meticulously restored it. For example, 80% of the wooden frame details were replaced with newly manufactured parts. The chassis was sandblasted and painted. The axles and brakes were restored, and even the engine was overhauled. The special material, pegamoid, which was used to cover the outer roof and had long since ceased to be manufactured, was found as NOS (New Old Stock). Workshop manuals and the instruction book are included. New winter tires on rims and a towbar are also included. See the owner's comment for more information.

This is a distance auction. Photos and details of the car and its technical condition have been provided by the owner. BWA has not inspected the car on-site.

Beurteilung Fahrzeugzustand

  • Zustand technisch:

Volvo's well-known B4B engine. A four-cylinder inline engine with a displacement of 1.4 liters, producing a specified output of 44 horsepower. It has a three-speed manual transmission with a non-synchronized first gear. The brakes have been renovated, featuring hydraulic drum brakes without brake servo assistance. The engine starts and runs without any issues.

  • Zustand Interieur:

In excellent condition. Completely restored. The steering wheel, in brand-new condition without cracks, took several years to find. Just that alone shows the level of dedication involved. New upholstery, new headlining, door panels, and carpets. New glass windows, except for the side windows, which are original and therefore a bit scratched.

  • Zustand Exterieur:

In excellent condition. Fully restored. The advertisement on the doors can be removed without leaving any marks behind. See pictures.

  • Zustand gesamt:

A vehicle that stands out from the crowd. A work vehicle from 1952 in a condition that feels like new.

Kommentar vom Besitzer

Jag vet ej någon äldre PV445 som är totalrenoverad. Känd historik, så alla tidigare ägare finns nedteckande. Se artikel i Classic motor 2/2025.

Gladsax Karosseri:
The company was founded by brothers Albert and August Andersson. In 1909, they started a village smithy in the village of Gladsax, about half a mile outside Simrishamn on Österlen. Initially, they built and repaired various horse-drawn vehicles. Since the Andersson brothers also operated a haulage business, it naturally led to them focusing on repairs of cars and trucks. They then transitioned into manufacturing truck cabins. The Gladsax cabin was a solid piece of craftsmanship. There were no prefabricated parts; everything was built in the workshop. The Gladsax cabin became a well-known term among Swedish hauliers and remained so for several decades. The company still exists today. However, gone are the days when wooden cabins were built. Today, the company focuses on truck constructions, such as crane/dump bodies, fixed platforms, and load carriers.
