"Twenty-five years ago, this was a dignified luxury car in Sovereign trim, a long-distance cruiser of high caliber. It may still possess those qualities, but it now requires a technical overhaul and body repairs by an enthusiast who wishes to restore it to its former glory."

Beurteilung Fahrzeugzustand

  • Zustand technisch:

Bilen starts easily and the engine runs smoothly. The test drive was also comfortable. However, the steering wheel is slightly off-center in the neutral position. According to information provided, the car sometimes goes into "low-speed mode," although the reason for this is uncertain. A mechanic who inspected the car suggested that it could be due to a "knock sensor" issue. Since the car has primarily been stationary in recent years, it requires a thorough inspection and service. The car has passed inspection without any issues regarding rust damage to vital parts, but there are noticeable rust attacks on the wheel arches, fender edges, and front sills.

  • Zustand Interieur:

The interior has aged well over the years. The seats and rear bench are in good condition with gently worn leather. The wood trim is in fine shape, although there is a small crack or craze near the glove compartment. The fabric floor mats and door panels are in good condition. Most of the electrical functions appear to work well, including the heating and air conditioning. However, the central locking system is problematic and needs attention. The original stereo is functional. The headliner sags in the middle.

  • Zustand Exterieur:

The upper body trim is in good condition, and it appears to have the original dark gray, almost black, paint. There are some abrasions, scratches, and signs of rusting on the lower part. The glass and rubber details are generally okay with some patina. There are damages to the front turn signal lenses. The wheels show signs of wear and tear, and they are fitted with Vredestein tires; however, it's uncertain how much mileage they have covered. One of the hubcaps is different from the others. The engine and luggage compartments are in good condition.

  • Zustand gesamt:

The Jaguar/Daimler XJ6 model has a long history dating back to the 1960s. Despite being in production for six decades with countless upgrades, there is a common thread and similarity. Beloved from the very beginning, it has always remained interesting as an enthusiast and collector's car. Of course, the condition is always crucial. This vehicle has its flaws and can be used as it is, as a rolling restoration project, or one can go all-in for a full restoration. Regardless, it's a delightful classic.

Fakten zum Modell

The XJ6 model was launched at the London Motor Show in September 1968 and was an immediate success. In one fell swoop, Jaguar moved to the forefront. Several "old-fashioned models" disappeared, and here stood an affordable, modern, and attractive vehicle. The order books quickly filled up, and once again, the epitome of pace, space, and grace was synonymous with Jaguar. The following year saw the introduction of a more luxurious version, the Daimler Sovereign. If the cars also received vinyl roofs, they were given the name Vanden Plas in addition. In 1972, a version with a 12-cylinder engine, the XJ12, was introduced, as well as an extended L-version. The following year, the Daimler version also received these attributes. The model became the last one in which the company's founder, Sir William Lyons, participated in the development work.
For the 1974 model year, the Series II was introduced with some changes, such as a new grille and higher bumpers, among others.
For the 1980 model year, the Series III was introduced with an update by Pininfarina. Despite not looking very different at first glance, there were many small adjustments that provided better space, more glass areas, less aerodynamic resistance, and a more modern image.
On the technical side, the proven basic concept continued, including cast iron, but with better performance and, above all, lower fuel consumption.
For the 1987 model year, a more extensive upgrade came with a new model name, XJ40. In addition to a new body, which was still unmistakably recognizable, the interior was upgraded. The new J-gate shifter and new instrumentation were added. New engines of 2.9 or 3.6 liters, now with both block and head in aluminum, were introduced, reducing weight by 25-30%.
The X300 model was introduced in 1995 with yet another facelift, primarily with a new front and rear. Some attributes from previous models, such as dual round headlights, triangular-shaped taillights, and a rounder hood, returned. Still, there were various six-cylinders and a twelve-cylinder as powertrains, as well as different equipment options.
In 1998, the next upgrade arrived, known as the X308. The significant change was the introduction of new engines, V8s. The six-cylinders were replaced with a 3.2L V8, and the previous twelve-cylinder with a 4.0L V8. There was also a more modern five-speed automatic transmission from ZF. The interior was also upgraded and refined. Technology and safety also advanced into the new millennium.
