"Well-restored to a fine condition both externally and mechanically. The car stands out and is visually striking as a whole. A 123GT for a buyer who’s looking for a beautiful and somewhat rare 123, but who is also willing to overlook the fact that it’s not entirely in original specification."

Beschreibung

A car with its history rooted in southern Sweden. The vehicle appears to have been restored in stages. The engine was rebuilt in 2020—though the full scope of the work is unclear, notes indicate it is fitted with a C-cam. The rear axle was rebuilt in 2010, and the clutch plates were replaced.

During the restoration, significant investment was made in a beautifully crafted nougat-colored leather interior. Leather covers the seats, door panels, and trim, and the headliner has also been replaced. While not original, the interior is very tastefully done and exudes a sense of luxury.

The engine and gearbox perform exceptionally well, and the car feels solidly restored. It has not been inspected on a lift, but according to the owner, the condition underneath is good. The underbody has been rustproofed, likely during the restoration process.

Documentation is limited, but according to available photos, a number of handwritten notes exist. Last inspected in 2017, the car has seen limited use since its restoration in 2020. The odometer reads 90,000 km, though this mileage cannot be verified.

Beurteilung Fahrzeugzustand

  • Zustand technisch:

Feels solid in all technical aspects. The engine, gearbox with overdrive, brakes, and other mechanical systems are all in proper working order.
Fitted with 5.5-inch wheels and tires that have good tread depth, although the tires are several years old.

  • Zustand Interieur:

Beautifully stitched leather upholstery, as previously described. The interior color closely resembles the original shade. No visible damage to the interior. All technical functions are working satisfactorily, except for the older radio, whose functionality is uncertain.

  • Zustand Exterieur:

Very good overall condition externally, with only a few minor stone chips visible. The chrome, lighting units, and glass surfaces are all in good shape. The widened steel wheels suit the car well. All in all, it leaves a strong and well-balanced impression.

  • Zustand gesamt:

In summary, this is a beautiful and striking car that turns heads wherever it goes. It features an impressively refined interior—especially appealing to those who appreciate a tasteful departure from the original specification.

Fakten zum Modell

The name "Amazon" was used only in the Nordic market, as the name was already registered abroad by the German motorcycle and moped manufacturer Kreidler. Internationally, the car is better known as the Volvo 121/122S/123GT, which was also what appeared on the fender badges of cars sold in Sweden. Initially, the name was spelled "Amason," referencing the Amazons of mythology.

The two-door model was designated P130, the four-door P120, and the wagon P220. In its first year on the market, the wagon was called the 221, but afterward, the designations 121 and 122S were used regardless of body style. The four-door model was discontinued in 1967 with the introduction of the Volvo 144. By the final production year in 1970, the wagon was also gone, leaving only the two-door model in production.

P120M (August 1966 – July 1967) introduced several updates:
– Increased engine output from the B18A (85 hp) and B18D (100 hp)
– Closed cooling system
– Modified clutch
– Reinforced rear suspension
– New grille design

A new model was also launched: the 123GT, featuring:
– B18B engine
– Alternator
– Overdrive
– Dual side mirrors on the front fenders
– One fog light and one driving light at the front (in some markets, including Sweden)
– Tachometer
– Sports steering wheel
– Chrome trim rings (“snob rings”) on the wheels
– Engine bay and trunk lighting
– Radial tires

Production of the P120 ended in late 1966.
