Fakten zum Modell
Mr. Bricklin went ahead with his concept of a beautiful, sporty and safe sports car. Young designer Herb Grasse, with a background at both Chrysler and Ford, had been working with George Barris when Lincoln Futura turned into the bat mobile show car. Production started in 1974 and confidence and confidence were strong. For who could really resist a stylish sports car with clean lines, pop-up headlights and Gull wing doors? It was decided that production would start in Canada.
The car wasn't just sporty; it was built after a vision with high safety thinking. On the sweeping front party there were hefty bumpers to spare pedestrians, along the sides of the body, clear black moldings ran. The body was made of fiberglass and underneath it there was a powerful pipe structure so that it would be as rigid and crash-proof as possible. The marketing material tells of a crash-proof car, but also about a car so fast and maneuverable that accidents could easily be avoided. You could get your Bricklin in five different colors, and all were black-lacquered under the body's waist line, just like the Ferrari 365 BB. The coupe was snug with carpets and brown beige plush-like attire mostly everywhere. The dashboard had deep-seated instruments in the driver's eye range sat speedometer and speedometer. On the right is the remaining four meters. The gear selector sits high on the center console, and the driver has a lot of room to rest the right arm on.
SV-1 was a luxurious and well equipped car. As standard equipment there was air conditioning, a low-mounted radio and digital clock. Customers had to cope with no cigarette lighters or ashtrays, Malcolm Bricklin claimed it was idiotic to smoke while driving.
The 1.23-metre low and 4.54-metre-long car has a sharp and hypermodern design. The sporty look required a sharp engine. The first 155 specimens built in 1974 in Canada were delivered with an engine from AMC, later all SV-1 Ford received 351 V8 (5,752 cm³), the "Windsor Engine". SV-1 is like a real dream car that mixes Corvette with DeLorean.
The price tag on the 1974 model ended up at $7,490 and by the time the 1975 model premiered, the price had jumped to as much as $9,980. The company expected to sell a thousand cars per month and the best monthly result was 429 cars. A total of 2,854 copies were manufactured before the project was closed at the end of 1975. It is estimated that barely a thousand copies remain today
