Zustand technisch
Starts easily and runs smoothly in both engine and drivetrain. Most components have been serviced and work well, with a pleasant tone and operation. It’s been inspected underneath on a lift, and the vital areas appear solid. There is a small rust hole by the trim on the left rear fender. The trunk lid has bubbling at the bottom—however, a good spare lid is included.
-
Zustand Interieur
Reportedly, the car is largely in its original specification, showing some patina and normal wear for its age. It offers good comfort in the front seats and rear bench, with the textiles, door cards, and trim panels all in good order. The headliner and sunroof are in good condition; the sunroof crank isn’t original, but an original replacement is included. The steering wheel, controls, dashboard, and gauges are all original and fully functional.
-
Zustand Exterieur
Repainted in the early 1980s in its original color. In good condition with a “used” patina. The glass, trim, badges, and lighting details are in good order, showing varying wear and minor blemishes. The wheels and hubcaps are in good shape and fitted with tires from 2024 and the have been driven 300km.

Zustand gesamt
An early “short-nose” 850 GT is a true classic and a highly coveted enthusiast’s and collector’s piece. With its factory-fitted sunroof, documented provenance, and delightful, well-functioning everyday patina, this car is genuinely unique. There may be examples in more pristine condition, but few can match the charisma this one exudes.

Fakten zum Modell
The Saab 96 which replaced the 93 F, made its debut in Stockholm on 17 February 1960—ushering in a new decade. It was essentially the same car up to the A-pillars but featured an entirely new rear section. It also received a larger engine and a revised dashboard—altogether making it, in effect, a new car and a genuine step into the 1960s. The powerplant now delivered 42 hp, the rear window was 117 % larger, there was room for three in the back seat, and the luggage compartment was more spacious. For the 1963 model year, the grille was updated to accommodate the Saab emblem. Interior trim details were refreshed, and a more efficient heating and ventilation system became hallmarks of the new cars. On the Saab Sport variant, the 96’s instrument panel was adopted (whereas previously it had retained the 93’s), now featuring large, round speedometer and tachometer gauges. The glove-box door was fitted with a pull-handle, though there was still no “speedpilot.” As the year before, output was 52 hp and front disc brakes were standard.
When Saab later launched the new 99—and subsequently the 900—many believed the 96’s run was over, but like a phoenix it continued to receive updates over the years and soldiered on all the way into the 1980s.
In January 1980, the 96 era finally came to an end. The last car off the line, on 8 January, was driven by rally legend Erik-Carlsson to the Saab Museum in Trollhättan. The final examples were sold that spring, with only 967 units registered in Sweden.
In total, some 547 221 examples of the Saab 96 are reported to have been built.
