On 18 January 1952, the owner of Bergs Livs in Västervik purchased this car new. The grocer chose the better-equipped Special model. After just two and a half years, it changed hands for the first time. The third owner had his son-in-law modernize the PV in 1959. The so-called roof ox was removed, and the car also received a new grille. In 1972, the son-in-law took over the Volvo, which was deregistered and put away, but in 1991 he began a restoration. The PV had three fenders replaced, the original appearance with roof ox was restored, and it also received the correct grille and bonnet stripe. The bodywork was painted in the correct dove grey colour. The interior received new upholstery and a new headlining. In autumn 1992 the restoration was complete, but it was only after a change of ownership in 1994 that the Volvo was registered again. The current owner has owned the car since 2012, but now wishes to reduce his car collection and is therefore selling it at auction. A folder with documentation about the car, including copies of older registration documents, is available. A speedometer restored by the well-reputed Instrument Jige and a set of older diagonal tyres on rims are included in the sale. A set of keys is included.

Zustand technisch
Starts easily and runs well in engine and gearbox. According to the owner, the speedometer makes a noise at speeds over 70 km/h. He has therefore obtained a newly restored gauge which is included with the purchase. A period radio is fitted, but does not function.

Zustand Interieur
The front seats' upholstery is somewhat loose-fitting and the passenger seat's backrest has large holes in the upholstery. The rear seat has a large stain. The door panels are somewhat soiled. The steering wheel has cracks. The headliner, which was replaced during the renovation in the 1990s, still looks good.

The repaint from the early 1990s maintains the style, and the paint could become even glossier with machine polishing. There are a few minor paint blemishes – see pictures – which could be improved. The bumpers show typical chrome scuffing that often comes with age, and there is also a slight dent on them. The body trim is in good condition. Older radial tyres with good tread are fitted.

A nice PV 444 ready for use. When the spirit moves, the next owner can choose to improve details such as the upholstery – or simply enjoy the car as it is.

Fakten zum Modell
Series production of the Volvo PV 444 commenced in February 1947. This was two and a half years after the model was presented at Volvo's exhibition at the Kungliga Tennishallen in Stockholm. Initially, all buyers had to settle for black cars, but in 1950 a more equipped version came lacquered in a dove grey colour. The PV 444 Special featured, among other things, bumpers with horns, decorative trim on the wings, red rubber mats, sun visors on both driver and passenger sides and a cigarette lighter on the instrument panel. In September 1950 came the second regular series of PV. With the B-series, the car received a roof-mounted direction indicator which was quickly nicknamed the roof cuckoo in common parlance. In June 1951 the C-series began production. Now the 16-inch wheels were replaced by 15-inch wheels, the rims became five-stud instead of the previous four, and the number of fuses increased from four to six! The auction object is a CS – that is to say a Special of the C-series. One of the innovations of the PV 444 CS was new smooth upholstery. As early as 1952, the C was replaced by the next series, making the CS one of the rarest PV models. In August 1958 the last PV 444 was built, with a total of 196,004 examples manufactured according to Volvo's statistics. But it was not the end for the PV – after a major update the model changed its name to PV 544.

- During the auction days information about a vehicle may be updated up to the day before the auction ends. Important to know before placing your bids!
- Once you have called in an item and the reservation price is reached we want you to deposit the entire purchase amount into our client funds account before retrieval can take place.
- When you need to retrieve a called in object we want you to examine it carefully. If you consider that the item does not match our description you do not need to complete the purchase. In this case the deposited purchase sum and the entry fee are refunded.
- If you do not examine the item on the spot the call charge will be debited, but you do not have to complete the deal.
- If you make the entire purchase exclusively at a distance you have 14 days to cancel, but must return the item at your own expense.
- Your shipping costs and other costs are not reimbursed when the right of withdrawal is exercised. Swedish court applies.
