"The car's expression has a distinct Las Vegas vibe. But it's really just in the wheels."

Beschreibung

The car came to Sweden from the USA as early as 2006, where it had been a show car for a hotel in Las Vegas. After a period of inactivity, the current owner registered the car for road use in Sweden in 2014. Since then, the car has been stationary for extended periods, and has only been started and test-driven once a year, as well as occasionally used as wedding transport. The car has not been inspected since the first approved inspection on 2014-05-13.

Beurteilung Fahrzeugzustand

  • Zustand technisch

Starts well and easily, the gearbox shifts smoothly and correctly. According to information from the seller, the engine is said to have slightly more power compared to the standard motor, possibly just over 300 hp.
Good brakes. Has been standing for three years and requires both an oil service and general service.

  • Zustand Interieur

Wood-grain trim and veneer look good on the dashboard, the steering wheel has a crack at the top of the rim. The dashboard is slightly cracked beneath the protective cover that lies on top of the panel itself. The electric windows work sporadically or not at all. The driver's side door can be opened and closed with some persuasion. Otherwise good door panels and headlining.

  • Zustand Exterieur

Presentable exterior, repainted at some point in the USA. Some wear on the interior, 22-inch wheels with new unused tyres, the trend of large wheels on classic full-size American cars was strong several years ago, and still seems to persist here and there.

  • Zustand gesamt

Easy to restore to a standard stance with original wheels if preferred. Unsupervised for a long time and not serviced in a long time either. But roadworthy and running nicely.

Fakten zum Modell

Lincoln Continental Mark IV 1972 was introduced in late 1971 as Ford's flagship and personified the 1970s American "personal luxury" segment. The model replaced the successful Mark III and was designed to compete directly with the Cadillac Eldorado. The 1972 model year became a major sales success with 48,591 units produced, which made Lincoln able to outsell its rival from Cadillac for the first time. The model featured an entirely new body that was both longer and wider than its predecessor. It shared its fundamental technical platform with the sixth-generation Ford Thunderbird, but received a completely distinctive, ultra-luxurious exterior with classical proportions featuring a long bonnet and a short rear deck. Some characteristic design details were a tall chrome grille in Rolls-Royce style flanked by hidden headlights, and the "Continental hump" on the boot lid which mimicked a classic spare wheel cover. This model year also received small, oval so-called opera windows in the rear roof pillar as an option, which became so popular that they were made standard the following year. All cars were furthermore delivered with a padded vinyl roof as standard. Under the large bonnet sat Ford's largest passenger car engine, a 7.5-litre V8 coupled to a three-speed C6 automatic gearbox. From 1972 onwards, the American horsepower measurement system changed from SAE gross to SAE net, which resulted in the official power figure landing at 224 hp. The car was completely focused on providing a quiet, smooth and isolated gliding sensation rather than sporty performance. Inside, the Mark IV offered classical luxury with an instrument panel trimmed in wood-grain, an analogue timepiece from luxury manufacturer Cartier, automatic climate control, six-way power-adjustable seats and electric windows as standard equipment. The car was also early with safety technology and was equipped with "Sure-Track", one of the market's earliest electronic anti-lock braking systems (ABS) for the rear wheels. After 1972, Ford was forced to modify the car's design with heavier, protruding safety bumpers to meet new federal crash requirements. This makes the 1972 model year retrospectively considered to have the purest and most elegant design in the Mark IV generation, which itself was produced until 1976.
