Beschreibung

The current owner bought this Ford in 2023. At that time, the car had been off the road for 22 years, with the engine seized and the brakes locked – as often happens when a car stands still for so long. When he began restoring the car, the owner happened to have an unused 2.8 V6 Granada engine sitting in his garage. This is the engine that is now fitted in the car.

The engine was also equipped with a sharper camshaft, a cylinder head with improved flow, and a Weber 38/38 mm carburetor. The Ford was further upgraded with a five-speed gearbox from a Sierra. Much else was overhauled and many parts replaced. Among the new components the car received were: fuel tank, radiator, exhaust system, large parts of the braking system, carburetor, and of course new tires.

The car was repainted at some point, and rust has started to appear at the lower edges of the doors and just ahead of the rear wheels. In reality, a Ford like this should have long since been scrapped or rusted away, which makes this one a rarity. The vinyl roof is in good condition – also unusual on a 1970s car.

Beurteilung Fahrzeugzustand

  • Zustand technisch:

    Runs well in engine and gearbox, but something in the drivetrain vibrates under load at lower revs, then disappears at higher speed. The radio works. Newer tires with good tread depth.

  • Zustand Interieur:

    The interior is in good condition. There are signs of use and age, but overall it is in good shape. There are a few small holes in the seat upholstery (see photos).

  • Zustand Exterieur:

    Older repaint. Some rust is starting to appear at the bottom of the doors and in front of the rear wheels (see photos). Chrome work is in good condition for the car’s age. The chrome trim around the left rear side window is damaged (see photo). The underside looks decent for its age.

  • Zustand gesamt:

    A now rare Ford on the roads, in good usable condition. Perfect for those who enjoy attention. Inspected and ready to drive. Will be even better once the drivetrain vibrations are addressed.

Fakten zum Modell

The Ford Taunus is a passenger car produced in various generations by Ford in Germany. Production for the West European market ended in 1983. However, different variants continued to be built in Argentina (Taunus SP 1 & SP 2) until the mid-1980s, and in Turkey it was manufactured all the way until 1995 in a version called the Otosan-Ford Taunus 2000, based on the last German version but technically updated with various components from the Ford Sierra.

  • During the auction days information about a vehicle may be updated up to the day before the auction ends. When you bid at the end of the auction period - and also if you have made an earlier bid - we therefore ask you to read the descriptions carefully, in case something has been changed due to new information.
Important to know before placing your bids!
  • Once you have called in an item and the reservation price is reached we want you to deposit the entire purchase amount into our client funds account before retrieval can take place.
  • When you need to retrieve a called in object we want you to examine it carefully. If you consider that the item does not match our description you do not need to complete the purchase. In this case the deposited purchase sum and the entry fee are refunded.
  • If you do not examine the item on the spot the call charge will be debited, but you do not have to complete the deal.
  • If you make the entire purchase exclusively at a distance you have 14 days to cancel, but must return the item at your own expense.
  • Your shipping costs and other costs are not reimbursed when the right of withdrawal is exercised. Swedish court applies.
  • For items that have not been collected within 14 days storage costs may be charged.
