Beschreibung

A friend of the seller was planning to go and inspect this motorcycle, which was for sale about fifteen years ago. The current owner was invited to come along. While his friend examined the bike to assess its condition, the current owner looked through the accompanying documentation — and to his surprise, discovered that it had originally been purchased new by his great-uncle. That settled the matter, and his friend graciously stepped aside, allowing the motorcycle to return to the original owner’s family.

Despite not having been started for many years, the bike came to life after a service and a fuel change. In 2014, it was re-registered in the vehicle registry following an inspection. It is now registered with a dispensation for the lack of functioning lighting, as it is equipped only with non-operational acetylene lamps. The dispensation applies “only on the condition that the vehicle is not driven during darkness, dusk, dawn, or when required by weather conditions or similar circumstances.”

Documentation, including old insurance papers and a purchase receipt, is included.

  • Zustand technisch:

    During the photoshoot, the JAP engine was started using an external fuel supply, as it was difficult to get fuel through the regular system. Otherwise, the seller states that it is fully rideable. The throttle grip was slightly loose at the time of documentation.

    A motorcycle with a patinated finish, yet functioning well within the technical limitations of its nearly 100-year-old design.

Fakten zum Modell

The company was founded in 1874 by John Thomas, T. Bayliss, and John Slaughter. They initially produced penny-farthings, later moving on to manufacture bicycles under the names Excelsior and Eureka. In 1910, the company name was changed to Excelsior Motor Co.

During the interwar period, the company was taken over by R. Walker & Sons of Tyseley, and production was relocated to Birmingham. Excelsior produced its last motorcycle in 1964. The Britax company, known for its automotive products, then acquired the name and continued producing motorcycles under the Britax-Excelsior brand until the late 1970s.

General information about the condition of the vehicles .
  • At this auction, many vehicles have been included in car collections and have been stored (mothballed) for a long time. For this reason, they are described from a collector's perspective and may need technical reviews and maintenance service - oil, battery replacement, new tires, brake review, etc. - before they can be used. .
  • During the auction days information about a vehicle may be updated up to the day before the auction ends. When you bid at the end of the auction period - and also if you have made an earlier bid - we therefore ask you to read the descriptions carefully, in case something has been changed due to new information.
Important to know before placing your bids!
  • Once you have called in an item and the reservation price is reached we want you to deposit the entire purchase amount into our client funds account before retrieval can take place.
  • When you need to retrieve a called in object we want you to examine it carefully. If you consider that the item does not match our description you do not need to complete the purchase. In this case the deposited purchase sum and the entry fee are refunded.
  • If you do not examine the item on the spot the call charge will be debited, but you do not have to complete the deal.
  • If you make the entire purchase exclusively at a distance you have 14 days to cancel, but must return the item at your own expense.
  • Your shipping costs and other costs are not reimbursed when the right of withdrawal is exercised. Swedish court applies.
  • For items that have not been collected within 14 days storage costs may be charged.
