FIA approved as a historic rally car. Appendix-K, since 2019 and subsequently updated with a newly built gearbox and engine from Sweden's leading VW engine builder. Not raced competitively since then.

Beschreibung

Until 2015, this car was a private vehicle in Strömsund, Norrland, and had only traveled 109 660 kilometers. It was especially suitable for conversion into a rally car as it was not worn out and had no rust damage. In the fall of 2015, the car was sold to a rally car expert/collector in Munka Ljungby who rebuilt it and then competed in a number of regularity races until 2018, including participating in the Midnight Sun Rally during this time. In the spring of 2019, the car was inspected by Per Karlsson, an inspector for the Swedish Motorsport Federation, and was then FIA-approved on June 25, 2019, as a historically correct rally car, Appendix K. Afterwards, in the fall of 2020, it was sold to the current owner, Johannes Persson at JP-Motorsport in Helsingborg. Johannes, known in VW circles as Sweden's best engine builder, was eager to start driving historic rallies and chose this car because it was in unusually good condition and felt very stable and solid on the road. The brakes were also better than usual. However, Johannes enjoys tinkering and couldn't resist building a new gearbox with Finnish gears (highest quality), with a high first gear and close ratios for the rest. The engine was also rebuilt, starting with an original 1600 block, all new with the best parts, ground, balanced, braked, and adjusted. New IDF48 carburetors and dry sump lubrication with a tank in the left rear fender were also added. With the new stainless steel exhaust system, the car was tuned to 150 horsepower. Johannes also noted that with a different exhaust system, an additional 15 horsepower could be achieved.

The car has front disc brakes of the original type and Bilstein shock absorbers, with completely new wheels and tires. After completion, the car has only been test-driven, braked, and adjusted. The build cost for the engine is 220,000 SEK, of which more than half is the purchase cost for the parts alone.

Johannes has now decided to sell the car after three years, as other family interests are taking more time.

Beurteilung Fahrzeugzustand

  • Zustand technisch:

    In the best technical condition. The car feels very stable and solid on the road. Very good brakes and gearbox. Incredibly responsive engine. Everything has been reviewed and adjusted by one of Sweden's foremost VW Beetle experts. In the vehicle registry, the engine power has been changed/approved from 50 to 88 horsepower.

  • Zustand Interieur:

    Normal condition. Sturdy roll bar, original dashboard and door panels. Sports seats and four-point harnesses. Everything FIA-approved.

  • Zustand Exterieur:

    Whole and fine in body and undercarriage. No signs of collision damage. A bit thin with paint on the underside of the floor plate, after driving on gravel roads. No rust damage, but a little surface rust underneath. Repainted in a red color similar to the original, without removing the windows. Thick with paint, but unfortunately, there are some silicone spots in the paint on top. Nothing that disturbs, as this is a rally car.

  • Zustand gesamt:

    Exellent overall impression. The car runs very well. Easy to drive, with great acceleration and good handling. The seating is perfect, and the car is stable on the road, braking like no other 1303.

Denna bil var fram till 2015 en privatbil i Norrland, i Strömsund, och hade då bara gått 10966 mil. Bilen var särskilt lämplig att bygga om till rallybil eftersom den inte var sliten och inte hade några rostskador. Hösten 2015 såldes bilen till en rallybils expert/samlare i Munka Ljungby som lät bygga om den och körde sedan ett antal regularity tävlingar fram till 2018. Bland annat deltog bilen i Midnattssolsrallyt under denna tid. Våren 2019 fick bilen en genomgång av Svenska bilsportförbundets besiktningsman, Per Karlsson, och blev sedan FIA-godkänd 2019-06-25 som historiskt korrekt rallybil, appendix K. Härefter såldes den hösten 2020 såldes till nuvarande ägare, Johannes Persson på JP-Motorsport i Helsingborg. Johannes som i VW-kretsar är känd som Sveriges bästa motorbyggare, var sugen på att börja köra historiska rallyn och valde denna bil då den var i ovanligt bra skick och kändes väldigt stabil och fast på vägen. Även bromsarna var bättre än vanligt. Johannes gillar dock att skruva och kunde inte hålla sig från att bygga en ny växellåda, med finska drev (högsta kvalitét), med hög 1:a och tätt mellan växlarna på resten. Även motorn fick bli ny, när han ända var igång. Ett original 1600-block, allt nytt med de bästa delarna och slipat, balanserat, bromsat och justerat. Till detta monterades nya IDF48:or förgasare och torrsumpssmörjning med tank i vänster bakskärm. Med det nya rostfria avgassystemet bromsades bilen till 150 hkr. Johannes upplyste också om att med ett annat avgassystem får man ut 15 hkr till. Bilen har skivbromsar fram, av originaltyp och Bilstein stötdämpare, Fälgar och däck är helt nya. Bilen är efter färdigställandet bara provkörd, bromsad och justerad. Byggkostnaden för motorn är 220.000 kr, varav mer än hälften är inköpskostnader för endast delarna. Johannes väljer nu, efter tre år att sälja bilen då andra intressen i familjen tar mer tid.

Fakten zum Modell

The 1303 was the top model in the VW Type 1 series, known as the Beetle, developed from the 1930s until production ceased in Mexico in 2003. By then, 25 million Beetles had been built in factories around the world. The 1303 model, with its curved front windshield, was only built in Germany from 1972 until the summer of 1975. After that, Karmann continued to produce the 1303 convertibles for a few more years. The 1303 was updated both in appearance and technically so that it could have been built and sold well into the 1980s, but production ceased in 1975 to make way for the new small car, the Golf, which was introduced in 1974 and quickly became very popular, needing production capacity in the factory. The 1303 is the most comfortable, sharpest, and pleasant Beetle model to drive and therefore also the best as a rally car.
