Beschreibung
The current owner purchased the car in 2014 with the intention of using it as a daily driver, but quickly realized that was out of the question given its condition and originality. In fact, he never even registered it for road use, only starting and warming it up occasionally. The most recent approved inspection was carried out on September 5, 2014.
Teknische Daten
Beurteilung Fahrzeugzustand
-
Zustand technisch
The car has been serviced as thoroughly as possible for a vehicle that has covered just over 19,000 kilometers. The timing belt was replaced both in 1996 at 11,150 kilometers and again in 2008 at 18,000 kilometers. During the test drive, it was noticeable that the fuel in the tank is old, causing the engine to run somewhat unevenly. With fresh fuel, it should run much better.
-
Zustand Interieur
The current owner has preserved the original rubber floor mats, which remain in like-new condition, and instead fitted textile mats for use. The interior as a whole is also remarkably close to new condition.
The car was delivered without a radio in 1990, but the owner has since sourced a working Clarion cassette player with radio. The original blanking plate for the radio opening is still included and stored in the glove compartment. -
Zustand Exterieur
The paintwork is impeccable and remains in original condition. The plastic trim, rubber seals, and glass are all in very good shape. The car even retains its original delivery tires from the period. There is some minor surface corrosion on the outer edges of the steel wheels, much of which should be possible to polish away.
-
Zustand gesamt
It is rare for such an unassuming everyday car to appear in such exceptionally well-preserved and untouched original condition — bordering on showroom new. For some enthusiasts, that represents the ultimate form of automotive appeal.

Fakten zum Modell
The model was based on the front-wheel-drive platform introduced with the Mk3, but featured a more rounded design, a more modern interior, and improved rust protection. Mechanically, the car was powered by a 1.6-liter CVH engine equipped with electronic fuel injection — hence the “i” designation. This was particularly important for the Swedish market, as it allowed the engine to work efficiently with a lambda sensor and three-way catalytic converter in order to meet strict emissions regulations. The engine produced 90 horsepower and delivered a lively driving experience in the relatively lightweight body, while fuel consumption remained reasonable for its time.
The CL trim level (“Comfort Luxury”) positioned the car as the ideal practical family vehicle of the era. It lacked the luxury touches of the Ghia model and the sportier character of the XR3i, but offered buyers a complete and functional everyday car with cloth upholstery, a five-speed gearbox, and a familiar, user-friendly driving environment.
In the autumn of 1990, the Mk4 was phased out in favor of the all-new Mk5 Escort.
