"Meticulously restored in every detail."

Beschreibung

The owner has written a short piece about the restoration—we’ll let him tell the story himself:

"I am now a happy retiree for several years. Since my youth, I’ve been involved with cars—first as a car mechanic, and for the past 50 years, as a self-employed businessman in the bus industry. In my spare time, I’ve worked on and repaired vintage cars.

How do you begin the story of an old car that’s been on your mind for 40 years?

The first time I heard about this car was through a good friend. It was in the early 1970s when we went to the location where the car was stored. It had been kept in an old chicken coop and was in excellent condition. Naturally, I was completely captivated by the car and wanted to buy it.

The owners, who had bought it via another person who acquired the car in Norway through connections, did not want to sell. They planned to restore it themselves once they retired.

The car, a 1929 Citroën C6, had been purchased in Norway by farmer Rolf Sorge, Råde, on April 15, 1965. It was disassembled and brought into Sweden without customs documentation, and later reassembled in Sweden. (It is mentioned in the club’s magazine Autogenial, membership directory no. 215 b.)

So almost 35 years later, in 2005, I ran into the owners again and asked if the car was finished.
“No,” they replied, “but now you can buy it. Come by, take a look, and make us an offer.”

A few days later, we went to see the car again, and it wasn’t as nice as before—35 years had taken their toll. It was rusty, had holes in the fenders and doors, the upholstery was water-damaged and torn, mouse nests everywhere—it was in miserable condition due to poor storage.

Despite that, I ended up buying the car. I brought it home and started with a historical inspection through the Swedish Vehicle Inspection Agency, since there were no customs documents.

The car was completely disassembled and the restoration began. The frame, suspension, and parts were sandblasted. The engine, gearbox, and driveshaft were restored. Fenders and doors were welded. In short, it was a total renovation. I started in February 2006 and worked off and on for four years.

I had some trouble sourcing spare parts, but thanks to great cooperation with Depanoto in Nogent-le-Rotrou, France, I found most of what I needed. The paintwork was done by Kopperöds Bil & Lack in Uddevalla, who did a fantastic job. The reupholstery of the seats, roof, door panels, and other parts was handled by S-klädsel AB in Stigen.

By February 2010, the car was nearly finished—except for the radiator, which had been sent for recoring but had disappeared. The problem was that the radiator company had gone bankrupt. I had even prepaid SEK 11,000, which was of course lost. But with great help from Göteborgs Kylarservice (who had acquired a radiator for my car from the bankruptcy estate that had not been collected), the radiator finally made it into place.

A curious detail is that the Norwegian owner Andreas Sorge was once offered a free Citroën of his choice if he would drive the car to Citroën in France in the 1950s!

I began preparing the car for registration inspection and booked a date. But then came another problem: the historical inspection had been done in 2006, and in 2008 the Swedish Transport Agency took over from the Road Administration, meaning they couldn’t find any record of the original inspection.

In the end, it was resolved, and the car was registered in June 2010 with registration number CGG 430.

This, in very broad terms, is how one can spend about four years restoring an old car.

The Swedish Citroën Club also inspected it for MHRF insurance, and according to inspector Robert Jansson: It couldn’t be better!"

Beurteilung Fahrzeugzustand

  • Zustand technisch:

Impeccable in engine and gearbox, but it's good to make use your engine sound talent and feeling as a driver of a Citroën Six from 1929, as with all pre-war cars. The cruising speed is around 60-70 km/h.

  • Zustand Interieur:

A Conduit Interieur literally means driving inside and for that the car has some exquisite materials inside. Beautiful woodwork, fabric and details.

  • Zustand Exterieur:

This car is not an exhibition car, although you get feeling it is. The paintwork is as good as when it was fresh out of the paint box some 10 years ago.

  • Zustand gesamt:

An adorable representative of the brand's early years, and a rare car among the pre-war models of its time.
