Beschreibung
The condition is very good. The car has never been rusted or involved in an accident. During the 1990 restoration, the front and rear fenders were replaced, and all wear parts in the chassis and brakes were renewed. The car was lowered, and new shock absorbers, anti-roll bars, additional lights, and more were installed. The engine was tuned to approximately 100 horsepower, and the gearbox and clutch were strengthened. The car performed well in the rallies it participated in, both in terms of performance and appearance. It is still in equally fine condition, but there are stone chips and minor scratches from driving on gravel roads.

It runs very well but may need a service as it has been scarcely used in the last 25 years. During the renovation in 1990, the trip meter was reset, and the car has now traveled 12260 km. According to information, the car had driven approximately 150 000 km before the renovation.

Fakten zum Modell
The Type 3 received a facelift in 1970 with a longer front, larger bumpers, and bigger taillights.
The background to the Type 3 was that, following the success of the Type 1, Volkswagen wanted to expand their model range with a slightly larger car. The basic structure with an air-cooled boxer engine mounted in the rear was retained, but the Type 3 offered more space and improved comfort. Similar to the Type 1, the car was constructed with a floor pan onto which the body was mounted, and the suspension was managed using torsion bars. The 1.5-liter engine, also found in the Type 1, underwent some modifications, such as lowering its height by relocating the cooling fan. This allowed for a small luggage compartment on top of the engine, where the Type 1 only had a storage compartment behind the rear seat backrest. Unlike the Type 1, the engine and rear suspension were mounted on a subframe that had rubber bushings against the body, reducing vibrations and improving comfort.
Two years after its debut in 1961, the S-model was introduced with twin carburetors. The Type 3, 1500 S cars quickly gained popularity in rallying and later in folk racing (thanks to their reliability, good weight distribution, and durability), which means that very few examples remain today. Most met their end on the racetracks. Therefore, finding a well-preserved rally car that has survived is rare and of historical interest.
