Beschreibung
It was originally ordered new by Scandinavian Car Tuning (SCT) in Kungälv and equipped from the factory with Volvo’s “Performance Line” package. This included features such as a carbon fiber spark plug cover and a strut brace. SCT used the car for over a year as a rolling test bench for their tuning products. It appeared on the cover of Bilsport magazine (issue 4/1998), where SCT owner Kalle Nilsson stated that it had been dyno-tested to 320 hp.
After an attempted theft, the car was sold and repainted in its original color by the next owner. When it was later put up for sale, it once again appeared on the cover of a magazine—Fyndbörsen issue 5/1999. Since then, it has changed hands a few more times, and since 2020 it has been owned by a collector of 1990s Volvo R models.
The car is currently off the road, and its inspection is valid until October 31 this year. The service book is present and stamped; the most recent service was carried out in 2022, at which time the timing belt was also replaced. Since then, the car has covered approximately 1,000 km. Three sets of keys are included.
The next owner can put the car into use immediately, although an oil service may be advisable—primarily due to the time elapsed since the last service.

Beurteilung Fahrzeugzustand
-
Zustand technisch
Starts and runs well, with both engine and gearbox functioning smoothly. Brakes and suspension performed well at the time of documentation. Basic electrical functions such as the radio, lights, windshield wipers, and electric sunroof were tested. However, the TRACS traction control system, cruise control, and whether the climate control system provides cooling were not tested.
-
Zustand Interieur
The interior is in fine condition. The front and rear seats are almost irresistibly inviting and, like the rest of the interior, are intact and clean. The suede section of the steering wheel shows minor wear. As expected, there is some wear on the left side of the driver’s seat backrest. There is also a small defect on the inside of the glove compartment.
-
Zustand Exterieur
The paintwork is glossy, and the body is overall in very good condition for its age. There are several stone chips on the hood. A couple of minor rust spots are present on both rear wheel arches (“dog legs”), and there is also some light rust at the lower corners of the rear door frames. Scratches can be found on both bumpers. There is a small dent on the driver’s door. The trunk lid/spoiler shows a slight variation in shade compared to the rest of the body.
-
Zustand gesamt
Runs well and presents nicely—you have to get up close to notice the minor imperfections that come with 28 years and just over 280,000 km of use.

Fakten zum Modell
Volvo had gained a significant image boost from the performance models T-5R and the subsequent 850 R, so it was a natural step to offer the S/V70 in an R version as well. A new feature for 1997 was that the V70 R was also available with all-wheel drive. The transversely mounted five-cylinder turbo engine produced 250 hp with a manual gearbox and 240 hp with an automatic.
At launch, the S/V70 models were offered in the Saffron color—a shade they shared with the new C70 coupé. Due to internal competition from the new coupé, the S70 R became a somewhat unusual choice, with around 500 units produced for the 1998 model year.
The following year, 1999, the R models were available only with AWD. When the final model year was introduced in autumn 1999, the S/V70 R AWD received an even more powerful engine, producing as much as 265 hp.
In 2000, the last cars of the first-generation S/V70 were produc
