Beschreibung

The car was first registered in March 1951 by the then-authorized dealer Scania Vabis in Södertälje as a 1950 model. The first owner used the car very sparingly and took meticulous care of it. In the 1980s, a friend inherited the car after it had been stored away for many years.

Over the years, the paint had faded, so the new owner carefully disassembled the car, started it up, and gave it a fresh respray in its original color, Pastel Green—no rust repairs were needed. Telescopic shock absorbers were installed.

Until just a few years ago, the car remained in the same family, used for leisure drives and occasionally for vintage car meets.

The current owner purchased the car in 2023 and has driven it only a few miles during the summer. He has serviced the vehicle and fitted it with new 16-inch tires in original specification. To this day, the VW has only covered 64,000 km.

Fakten zum Modell

Volkswagen in the 1950s – A German People’s Car Becomes a Global Success

After World War II, Volkswagen’s factory in Wolfsburg lay in ruins. But with the help of the Allies—particularly the British Army—production resumed on the small car that would later become known as the “Beetle” (VW Type 1). During the 1950s, Volkswagen experienced rapid growth:

By 1955, Volkswagen had produced one million cars, marking a major milestone for the German automotive industry.

The Beetle as a Symbol

The VW Type 1 became iconic thanks to its rounded design, rear-mounted air-cooled engine, and reliability.

It was seen as the people’s car—affordable, easy to repair, and fuel-efficient.

The 1950s was the decade when Volkswagen transformed from a German wartime project into a global automotive empire. The Beetle and the VW Bus are two of the most beloved car models of all time—both born during this transformative era.
