"A true Holy Grail among the remaining early 912s in the world."

Beschreibung

Highly attractive and considered especially exclusive by many knowledgeable enthusiasts. This particular example was manufactured during the very first week of Porsche 912 production, which itself began on Monday, April 4. On Friday, April 9, the auction car rolled out of the factory, and after the weekend, on April 12, it was inspected for export to Sweden. On April 22, the car was type-approved and registered for road use by the Swedish general agent, AB Scania-Vabis, in Södertälje in May 1965.

It was likely used as a company or demonstration car as one of the very first 912s in Sweden. A year later, the dealer on Birger Jarlsgatan in Stockholm took over the vehicle for delivery to its first private owner, an engineer named Adén from Upplands Väsby. Thereafter, the car remained largely in southern Sweden, passing through dealers and private owners in Nyköping and Stockholm. In 1971, the 912 was sold to Lomma and stayed in the Skåne region throughout the 1970s and into the early 1980s. In 1983, the car moved to Gislaved in Småland, before continuing on to Hillerstorp, Anderstorp, and Ljungby.

In 1992, the grandfather of the current user-owner purchased the Porsche, and it then found its home in Halmstad. Grandfather Lennart used the car for more than 22 years, maintaining and improving it with several of his own practical solutions. In 2020, the car was inherited by his daughter Bitte, although her son Andreas has effectively been the active custodian and user ever since.

The most recent — and therefore final — approved inspection under the applicable regulations was carried out on October 20, 2017. At that time, the vehicle was still within its approved inspection period when the revised exemption rules came into effect on April 20, 2018.

Beurteilung Fahrzeugzustand

  • Zustand technisch

The engine starts easily, and the five-speed gearbox with its dogleg pattern — first gear positioned down and back toward the driver — prefers, like many early Porsche transmissions, a calm and attentive driver. The brakes have recently been refurbished after the pistons in the front calipers had seized. Today, they function well together with the car’s light weight and entertaining chassis dynamics.

A previous owner has fabricated a custom metal panel in the engine compartment. At present, no research has been carried out regarding matching numbers for the chassis, engine, and gearbox.

  • Zustand Interieur

Well-preserved original upholstery with an attractive patina. The headliner and door panels are in good condition, although the escutcheons for the window winders and a plastic lens for the interior light are missing. Beautiful original aluminum dashboard trim fitted with an older period-style radio. The five-gauge instrument cluster found in early cars is considered particularly desirable equipment today. Grandfather Lennart also built a custom hatch/floor section in the luggage compartment to provide more stable storage for luggage.

  • Zustand Exterieur

An older repaint in the original color, presenting in honest driver-quality condition. There is a crack in the preparation work on the front hood. Rust-free rocker panels and an aftermarket front spoiler are fitted. The car sits on 15-inch Fuchs wheels with relatively low-profile 65-series winter tires for the model, contributing to the somewhat narrow and airy appearance in the wheel arches.

  • Zustand gesamt

A truly fascinating history and an engaging, appealing foundation — whether for the detail-oriented original restoration enthusiast or for an owner inspired by the outlaw style. However, as one of the very few remaining 912s built during the very first production week in April 1965, that particular distinction is likely to carry considerable weight for the former category of collector.

Fakten zum Modell

The early 912 models (1965–1967), with their short wheelbase, actually offered better handling than their bigger sibling, the 911. The 912 weighed less and had a generally superior weight distribution. For the 1968 model year, the wheelbase was revised and the rear wheels were moved 8 cm further back. This also improved the handling characteristics of the 911, although the 912 still retained an advantage when the roads or race tracks became especially twisty.

The 95-horsepower engine with dual carburetors was essentially the same design used in the predecessor, the Porsche 356 Super 90. Over time, the early 912 and 911 models have become increasingly appreciated among collectors for their clean and simple styling.

The auction car is one of the very earliest examples produced. Particularly attractive is the fact that it was factory-equipped with the desirable 911 features: a five-speed gearbox, five-gauge instrument cluster, and headrests.
