Beurteilung Fahrzeugzustand

  • Zustand technisch:

Starts easily and runs smoothly in both the engine and drivetrain. The test drive at Gärdet was positive, and everything appears to be functioning well.

  • Zustand Interieur:

The seat cushion is nicely refurbished, and the instruments are in good order and working condition.

  • Zustand Exterieur:

Restored to its original condition, with paint and details in excellent shape.

  • Zustand gesamt:

Heinkel’s post-war vehicles, scooters, and microcars are now popular collector and enthusiast vehicles. There are clubs around the world for these, with the largest, Heinkel Club, starting in Germany in 1983. The Tourist model from the second half of the 1950s is highly praised by many, and in the fine condition we see here, it stands as a distinguished representative and classic from that automotive era.

Fakten zum Modell

Heinkel Werke was founded in 1922 in Warnemünde, Rostock, by Ernst Heinkel. It became a significant industry, primarily known for its aircraft manufacturing. When German rearmament and war industry resumed in the late 1920s, after being prohibited following World War I, Heinkel was one of the companies ready to take off. A variety of models were launched during the interwar years. When World War II broke out, Heinkel’s medium bombers were a significant part of the Luftwaffe, particularly during the Battle of Britain. By the end of the war, Heinkel had become a major industry with 55,000 workers in service. For obvious reasons, Heinkel became a target for Allied bombings, which resulted in significant destruction. What remained was dismantled by the occupying power in Rostock, the Soviet Union, and transported eastward.

After the war, the company rose from the ashes and began, among other things, the production of vehicles such as scooters and microcars to meet the growing market demand. The first was the Heinkel Tourist scooter, manufactured from 1953 to 1965, with over 100,000 units produced. The model was considered a class above other scooters of the time. In England, it was dubbed the “Rolls Royce of Scooters,” and in the USA, “The Cadillac of Scooters,” due to its technical and ingenious solutions as well as its quality. The engineers who had previously built aircraft used their knowledge and applied it to their new civilian designs.

Over the years, the scooters came in various versions, and model 103 A0 began production in August 1955. It featured a 174 cc engine, four-speed transmission, and 10-inch wheels. At the time, it was a more sophisticated scooter than what competitors offered. It became a success, with an estimated 34,060 units built by September 1957.

The engines from the 174 cc scooters were also used in the Heinkel Kabine microcar, but that is another story.

The demand for scooters and microcars quickly declined in the early 1960s, and in 1964, Heinkel merged into Vereinigte Flugtechnische Werke.
