"A car that has been cherished as an exclusive new car, a desirable used car, a custom cruiser, and now as a classic. This is not a fully restored car, but a Ford that wears its history with pride."

Beschreibung

This Ford V8 Super Deluxe was delivered to its first owner, wholesaler Hilding Carlsson of Falun, in May 1946. The appearance of the chassis plate indicates that the car was assembled at Ford's factory in Copenhagen. Designated as model 69A, its chassis number, 727953, suggests an early production example. As the more upscale Super Deluxe version, it came equipped with features such as chrome trim rings, a dashboard clock, and a steering wheel with a full horn ring.

The car's ownership history has been traced through the Swedish National Archives. It was also featured in Motorhistoriskt Magasin (Issue 2/2014), where it is noted that one of its later owners drove the car on holiday trips to Spain and Italy. According to the article, the Ford has never undergone a full restoration and is believed to retain its original engine.

The engine and electrical system were refurbished in 2013. Over the years, the car has been repainted several times but has since been returned to its original blue factory color. Included with the sale are a copy of the Motorhistoriskt Magasin article, the original owner's manual, copies of historic registration documents, and a set of period-correct bias-ply tires mounted on wheels. The car is currently fitted with radial tires. One set of keys is included.

Beurteilung Fahrzeugzustand

  • Zustand technisch

The engine starts easily and runs well, and the transmission operates as it should. However, the car has seen only limited use in recent years and would benefit from a mechanical inspection to ensure reliable operation. The turn signals and lights were tested during the inspection and were found to be in working order.

  • Zustand Interieur

The interior is well presented, with attractive upholstery, door panels, and carpets all in good condition. The steering wheel shows some paint wear, which is best regarded as a sign of the car's age and authenticity. The headliner is older—likely original—and while free from damage, it has faded somewhat unevenly over the years.

The dashboard clock is inoperative. A cassette radio is installed inside the glove compartment and operates on a separate 12-volt electrical system, powered by a battery that is mounted in the trunk. The radio has not been tested, and no 12-volt battery is currently installed. The heater has not been tested.

  • Zustand Exterieur

The repaint is older, and the finish would likely benefit from a professional machine polish to restore some of its original gloss. Chrome components, including the bumpers, exhibit light pitting consistent with age. Together, these details give the Ford an honest, cohesive appearance—despite its years, it remains remarkably close to its original character.

The paintwork shows a number of age-related imperfections, including touch-up repairs and surface scratches.

  • Zustand gesamt

A 1940s automobile that, despite having been repainted and partially reupholstered over the years, remains largely original in character and specification.

Fakten zum Modell

"When Peace Comes, Ford Comes" was the slogan used in Swedish advertising after the end of World War II. The American "Peace Ford," however, was virtually unchanged from the 1941 and 1942 model years. Those models had never been sold in Sweden due to the war.

The model was available with either a six-cylinder or an eight-cylinder flathead engine. It featured body-on-frame construction, solid front and rear axles, hydraulic brakes, and a 6-volt electrical system.

The very first 1946 Ford rolled off the production line on July 3, 1945, and was presented by Ford to U.S. President Harry S. Truman. In December 1945, the 1946 model was introduced to Swedish Ford dealers. Only a handful of "Peace Fords" reached Sweden during the spring of 1946, but according to an article by noted automotive historian Per-Börje Elgh in Motorhistoriskt Magasin (Issue 2/2014), as many as 110 cars were delivered in May. The car now being offered for auction is one of those vehicles delivered during that month.

A total of 467,413 examples of the 1946 Ford model were produced, making this car a particularly early and well-documented example of one of the first post-war American Fords to reach Sweden.
