Beschreibung
All functions in the car operate satisfactorily. Over the years, the current owner has carried out minor repairs, including replacing the shock absorbers and tyres, followed by a front wheel alignment. The fuel pump has also been replaced.
Various receipts and numerous roadworthiness inspection reports are included, the most recent of which can be seen among the photographs. The car has not been inspected on a lift, but according to the seller, it is in good condition underneath. It is also said to have received underbody protection during its early years.
Teknische Daten
Beurteilung Fahrzeugzustand
-
Zustand technisch
The engine starts easily, and the gearbox shifts as it should. All technical functions are in good working order.
-
Zustand Interieur
The interior is in good condition. Cleaning the seats and carpets would further improve the overall impression. The sunroof is watertight and fully functional. There is a small rust hole in the luggage compartment, in the panel above the fuel tank.
-
Zustand Exterieur
The exterior is in generally fine condition throughout. The glass, lights, trim and paintwork are all in good usable condition. Polishing the paintwork would further improve the overall appearance. Nearly new tyres are fitted to the classic “Baroque” alloy wheels.
The engine bay is dirty and would benefit from a thorough clean. No visible pools of oil were found beneath the car. There are several paint bubbles around the right rear wheel arch. -
Zustand gesamt
The car would present considerably better after a full professional detail, including the exterior, engine bay and interior.

Fakten zum Modell
In the early 1980s, the 280 SE was one of the smaller-engined models in the S-Class range. It was aimed at buyers who wanted the comfort and safety of an S-Class, but with a six-cylinder engine that was relatively economical compared with the V8 alternatives.
The engine was an inline six-cylinder unit of approximately 2.8 litres with fuel injection, of the M110 type in earlier versions. Power output and exact technical specifications may vary slightly depending on model year and market.
Automatic transmission was standard on S-Class models, while manual gearboxes were unusual in this class.
Comfort-oriented suspension, robust build quality and a quiet cabin were all typical S-Class characteristics.
The car was introduced during a period when Mercedes-Benz was gradually adding new safety solutions, including a strong body structure and improved crash protection. ABS became available as an option, or standard on certain versions, during the early 1980s.
The interior offered a high level of comfort, with quality materials, electrically operated seats and windows, and generous use of wood and leather in the more luxurious versions.
Market and production
The 280 SE was not produced in the same volumes as more mainstream models. The S-Class was always an exclusive car, and the six-cylinder versions were relatively uncommon in certain markets.
Today, early-1980s examples of the 280 SE are appreciated as classics among Mercedes-Benz enthusiasts, particularly when well preserved or fully restored.
