Beschreibung
The father thought his wife might use the buggy as a daily driver, but after one trip into town, her time with the car was over, according to their son. Eventually, he and his sister used it, and once that phase passed with age and changing priorities, the buggy saw very little use.
Above all, it has been preserved as a true representation of the trend and craze it was during the 1980s. The most recent approved inspection was carried out on July 12, 2013.
Teknische Daten
Beurteilung Fahrzeugzustand
-
Zustand technisch
The engine has undergone a minor overhaul after a long period of inactivity. There are no leaks from the fan shrouds. The oil has been changed, a new fuel pump installed, and the carburetor cleaned. Some additional fine-tuning of the ignition and fuel systems may be needed, although the car runs quite well.
We have not checked the crank pulley or end play, which are said to be weak points on the 1300 engines. It is also worth noting that buggy conversions often removed some of the engine’s essential cooling tin, something to keep an eye on. -
Zustand Interieur
Plush-upholstered bucket seats and a neat red interior. A small rodent-related damage is present on one of the rear seat cushions. The roll bar is padded and wrapped. The red Biltema floor mats from the period—with their questionable fit—are almost a piece of automotive history in themselves today.
-
Zustand Exterieur
Classic and attractive Candy Red paint with some period-correct filler bubbling in certain areas. Otherwise, the car is well preserved in its 1980s style and details. The Finnish soft top appears very tidy, with practical zippers and a good fit. There is a small tear in the fabric where it stretches over the roll bar on the right side.
The exhaust system could easily be refreshed with heat-resistant paint and polishing of the pipes and fan cover. Older tires with good tread are fitted on classic White Spoke wheels. Raw welds and a shortened floor pan are present. Surface rust can be found along the central tunnel. -
Zustand gesamt
Many Volkswagen enthusiasts may have frowned upon these back then—and perhaps still do—but today the phenomenon can be seen as a trend, with few examples preserved. Here is one in a sound condition, ready to be cared for and refined.

Fakten zum Modell
In Sweden, a Volkswagen-based buggy was classified as a modified vehicle, provided that the floor pan had not been shortened by more than 400 mm and that the engine output had not been altered. Most buggy bodies are various versions of the Meyers Manx, originally produced by Bruce Meyer in California, USA, between 1963 and 1971.
